Hello I own a Celestron Nexstar 114-gt telescope and I have tried to set the quadrants and I would like to use lat/long. My first problem is that I need to find a good place to find the lat/long of my location and cant find anything and once I do how do I enter it. When I get to the place to enter the city of quadrants I dont see a lat/long option. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, AJ

Why not just use the nearest city from the database? It's quick, easy, and it works well without causing any GoTo or alignment problems.

Why not take a look at a VFR sectional chart at work and plot your home address from that.

Been teaching flying (free lance) for almost 30 years. Lat and Lon clearly gridded on all the charts. If you're near Class A or B airspace the local charts for that airspace are even better due to their scale.

If his Nexstar 114 is like my N8, you don't need to enter lat/long data. Just do a good twostar alignment, and away you go! Pete

If this is true (and I don't doubt you), why bother to enter longitude & latitude at all? Or is this just because the N8 has a built in GPS?

Magicboy, my N8 is the Classic N8. We don't need no stinkin' GPS. As a matter of fact, I DON'T enter lat/long. The one thing the auto align does do besides find your alignment stars for you is to query date/time. It needs this to goto the planets. However, if you're like me you cann see the planets/moon naked eye, so you don't really need goto for those. Just slew with the hc, and center in your finder and there you go! Pete

That explains why it doesn't slew to planets on two-star alignments! Doh!?! You're right Werewolf, this isn't a problem, since even newbies quickly learn to recognize the planets. Two-star alignments are fast and easy. Just make sure you mark orthagonal on your mount to speed up the process.
