Yes Sparrow I know Huntington. Also yes we have preseved a lot of Long Island. The Long Islnd Pine Barrens has over 50,000 akers of land. Suffolk County Parks has one of the largest amounts of property in the state. The Long Island State Parks are not far behind. I am A retired Couty Park Police Officer. So I had the oppotunity to patrol most of the county property at one time or another. Simthpoint County Beach gets about 20,000 to 30000 people on the weekends. Jones Beach and robert Moses state parks get a lot more people. So Long Island is Parks.

Sparrow,

Beautiful shot! I often see rain beads (or sometimes dew beads) on flowers and leaves in my backyard. In fact, I spend almost as much time looking at leaves and flowers with my binoculars as I do birds.

My backyard is enveloped in buds, blossoms, and leaves. Even on a sunny day, it's shady in the backyard. Keeps me cool when the temps are hot. The only downside is that I'm not the only one who likes the shade -- so do the mosquitoes.

Nice Iris Sparrow. I have a Sun flower in a bucket that is over 5 feet tall and growing.

I finally identified what those strange shaped aircraft were that buzzed over my house last week. I saw them in a CNN story on Iraq today.

They were A-10 Thunderbolt II jets, aka Warthogs:

Here's info about them:

Seeing as the flower seemed to be a big hit...
A flower is the sex organ of a plant so this is a very erotic picture. I hope it gets pass Echo.

Dave,

Thought you might find this interesting...

My two flower shots were taken with the standard Pentax 18-55mm "kit" lens that came bundled with the camera body.
I paid an extra 38 bucks for it at the time of purchase.

It wasn't that long ago when this level of quality would have been beyond what I was willing to pay for but now it's a "throw away" lens.

Sparrow, i have the canon 18-55mm kit lens, and ide agree they do exceptionally well for close up shots/work.
I bought the Canon 100mm USM Macro for dual purpose, astro
and macro but mainly with astro in minde since its f2.8 and
supposed to be sharp wide open.
Hopefully i can test it out on Antares Rho Ophiuchus region
in a couple weeks.

Great work guys. Nature is so beautiful. And most of it is free. As a poor country boy I dig Free. I wish my old film cameras were digital. I have all kinds of lens for them. I have an old Japanese camera I bought in the far east that would be great if I did not have to deal with film. Also for any one that is interested about Long Island there is a new site Explore Long Island.com. For photographing birds and nature the pine barrens is now listing over 100,000 acres of land.

It's good to hear they are doing something to preserve habitat out on the East Coast. It's some of the most threatened habitat in the States.

In some ways preserving open land on Long Island is more important than some National Park a 1000 miles from the main population centers out West in the rockies.

A good example of the habitat along my beloved Mississippi river...
