I was actually able to catch these fellas standing still for a few moments. I think after I snapped the picture they were off and running to do more shopping.
Here's John Crilly, Gary Gibbs (halfmeter), Mark Nordle (BCB), and Tom Trusock:

Robert and Karen Morlan (Mr and Mrs Badsnoopy) and me at the Saturday Solar party.
Robert and Karen are friends from Indiana and it had been around 7 months since I last saw them. Robert came home with some SWEEEEET goodies this year and I can't wait to have a play with a certain solar filter when I see them next! It was great to see them again.

This was my 3rd NEAF and it just keeps getting better and better! I couldn't walk 10 feet without seeing somebody I knew, so it took me the better part of Saturday to walk around the outside of the show. It was late Saturday afternoon before I got to walk up and down the rows.
Tom T and I were traveling together and we arrived late Saturday morning. Our plane flight into Westchester County Airport was scheduled on Friday night but was cancelled due to fog so we took the first flight to LaGuardia at 6:25 AM Saturday morning. Our first stop was the Backyard Observatories booth to see Scott, Diane, Jane, Gary, Mark, Jim, and John once again. Erika was already outside at the Solar Party and I met up with her later on. What a great group of people!
Then Todd and Alan Traino saw me and filled me in on the big Televue secret: the Ethos eyepiece. Last year Todd was right behind me as #2 in the Televue blem sale line, but this year I was heading over to the Televue display at the crack of 10 AM. Even though someone else got "first in line" honors this year, Televue still had a 2.5 Nagler T6 available and I got the eyepiece I wanted anyway.

David Nagler demonstrated the new Focusmate USB driver box and digital focus readout software for me. As he was describing Televue's new imaging system accessories, I couldn't help but make quick glances over to the new 13 mm Ethos 100° AFOV eyepiece located nearby. I just had to look into that eyepiece! David understood completely and we headed over to meet up with Paul, the eyepiece's designer, and Al Nagler. I removed my glasses and leaned over the Ethos eyepiece held in an NP-127 scope. Incredible! There was no visual sense at all telling me that I was looking though a telescope -- none! With a big smile I exclaimed, "It's like watching an IMAX movie!" The Ethos was sharp to the edge and I saw no astigmatism; the Saturn images placed near the edge of the field on the demonstration card I was viewing looked identical to the Saturn image in the center of the eyepiece. Wow!

It was clear during the first part of the day and I was so excited for a chance to view through the assortment of scopes and filters. But the thing is, I was having such a good time talking to everyone and then showing the views through my own scope that I missed the opportunity before the clouds came in for a complete overcast by 1pm.
I did, however, get a chance to have my first view through a homemade spectra scope. That's Randy Tatum to the right. He's got a 3" lens inside the scope and as he was describing it to me, I thought of Maurice (Nytecam) and remembered him explaining a similar set up in the solar forum a while back. Thanks, Randy, for the very interesting views. I'm looking forward to studying up about it again.
I'm ashamed to say I forget the name of the gentleman standing off to the left in this photo. I spent quite a bit of time talking to him that morning and really enjoyed the conversation, but I met so many people this weekend, I seemed to have forgotten most of the names. He had an older 70mm Coronado h-alpha scope. Those scopes don't have a tuner and it was the first time I had seen one first hand. I can't remember where he said he picked it up at, but I do remember he got one heck of a deal with it.

This scope with the 90mm Coronado h-alpha filter was Barlow Bob's. He and Greg Piepol both had their 90's there and I couldn't believe I didn't get a chance to view through either of them!!!

Hi Erika, my pleasure on both counts!
I've posted a pic of you and your friends from the midwest to the picture gallery.
Enjoy!

Here's a Solarscope from the Isle of Man. I was just itching on having a view for myself, as I've only had the pleasure of the Coronado's that followed. One day I'll have a look, one day.

Getting back to the solar party, here's Greg Piepol and his his son to the left of him. Greg is wearing the green shirt. There was always a huge line of people waiting for a peek during the sunny moments. Here's a link to Greg's site for an example of his solar work. He's always willing to help out and also very generous with sharing techniques. http://www.sungazer.net/

This is one of my favorites. Sol Robbins, a sketching buddy of mine, is to the left of me. We had spoken on several occasions, so although I knew his voice, I had never had the opportunity before this to meet him in person.
Then to the right of me in the photo is Marcus (JAT observatory)and his son, who I was really looking forward to meeting. It's such a pity that the clouds came in and there were no views to be had when he came onto the courtyard.
And then there's Mark (BCB) to the right of Marcus. Mark was a sweetheart and brought me over some tea.
All three of them had infectious smiles and it was great having all of them in one place at the same time. And I'm sorry I can't remember Marcus' son's name, but he was such a smart little guy and I very much enjoyed meeting him too.

I was there from 08:30 to 14:30 hrs and never saw you Erika I think I circled the whole NEAF 15 times during the day. I swore no more EP's but the Paragon 40 hooked me. I did look through the TV 13mm 100 FOV EP ETHO. It didnt exactly knock my socks off but a night out with it might do it justice. Al Nagler wouldnt loan it to me.

Did anyone get a picture of Al Traino when he was on his scooter?
We all had a great time, and really didn't want it to end. For some of us it has been a while since we've been able to meet up. I'll have to see if I can convince Markus to make it to the next BEOTS. He fits right in.
