80mm Jupiter May 4, 2007 new
      #1584810 - 05/04/07 07:40 AM Attachment (65 downloads)

Good seeing conditions progressed through the evening.

Here's a sketched Jupiter observation through the 3" scope @ 180x. A couple of large scale brightenings appeared at EZs into SEBn.

Io appears on upper left and there was Europa's shadow.

Best,

Sol,
Great sketch with all the details (festoons, white ovals, breaks in the belts, etc,).

I was shocked by this view in a modest refractor. It was a bit difficult to draw in the there were 4 very large brightenings in the EZs/SEBn region, as well as the Equatorial festoon rift. In order to convey the contrast of these brightenings, I quickly settled on making my grayscale a little bit darker and more spread out.

Additionally the coloring was subtle but noticeable.

Thanks,

Sol,

An outstanding observation of Jupiter for any size aperture. You have recorded a wealth of detail between the South Equatorial Belt (SEB) and the North Equatorial Belt (NEB), especially the Equatorial Zone (EZ). I agree that your 3-inch refractor must be a good one. I look forward to your future observations.

Carlos

I agree with everyone! A superior sketch by itself, but a magnificent display of observational skill with an 80mm scope! You need to send that to ASOD immediately!
