4x5 star trails
      #1655784 - 06/11/07 02:37 AM

I finally got my 4x5 view camera complete. I now have a 150mm/F5.6 Caltar Lens and 1 film holder. so With a box of Provia 100F in my freezer I'm thinking tonight might be a good time to take it out and try some star trails, that is of course if the weather is good. I don't have an equatorial mount yet, so trying anything tracked will not be possible.

Cool. Watch out for film expansion, particularly if it's humid out.

If you get the image back and the edges are sharp but the center out of focus, the film flexed away from the holder and you'll need a vacuuum back.

Thanks Suk. I haven't had a chance to do this yet. I'm not sure when I will, maybe thursday night from my back porch. I lost my job so I no longer have a car (It was a company car). With luck that will be fixed as soon as I get a new job.

Thanks, actually I found something Already (Thank G-d). It is a good bit more money, but doesn't come with a car, so I will have to get one. And with luck its enough to let me buy some cool astronomy toys. (The big question is what to buy first, and Equitorial mount for photography, or a mirror to build a big dob around).

I've tried star trails once with a 4x5-inch view camera, and found the negative out of focus in the center after I developed them. It seems the film expanded, bowed and ruined the photos everyone. I'd rather use my Nikon F-3 for star trails, it's a much easier camera to work with.

Well I figure its worth a shot, if not I'll use my Rollei to do them, medium format is pretty good

I would love to see the result Zach.
4x5 will give you top draw definition. The sharpness, resolution and clarity of medium and large format film can't be matched by digital.

It would be a pity not to try star trails with this camera, IMHO. I'm looking forward to seeing the results!

now that I have the camera working I plan to. It will have to wait until I can get to the negev, and I'm not sure when that will be as i will be spending most of August in the USA, and I won't be bringing the Sinar with me, its just too *word deleted by Otto Sinsore* big.
