A year to get it done?? LOL I usually panic on my projects and try to get it done by next Friday. At least you're sensibly realistic, I'm slowly learning to take my time and not to rush it and let it get done when it's done.
Looks like a great project. Make sure you keep us up to date!

Yeah. It is not that ATM projects necessarily save money, but they sure help avoid sticker shock that might aversely affect one's spouse...

Ah-Ha! The truth comes out. This is the single most important motivating factor in deciding to undertake an ATM project.

You better build your dream scope the first time, though, because they won't be fooled again...

ATM scope projects work just like curved spiders .... they spread the offending issue around such that it falls below the detection threshold ... be it diffraction or money spent !!!
Remember .. it's the nail that's sticking up that gets the hammer !!!!

Unfortunately, I am not sure if this logic with spouses will work. I am dreaming of another scope, which will be a 24" version of my DS-4 scope (a 16" lightweight). The wife is smart enough that the first thing that she said was "And how much will the primary cost?" "I'm not sure" wasn't an acceptable answer. At least she didn't leave me when I gave her a ballpark answer...

Rob:
My wife (AKA the CFO -- Chief Financial Officer ) has a detection threshold of 1 cent. I'm not making this up. She balances the checkbook to the penny every single month.
She kept and marked every ATM-related expense during the whole course of my 22-inch scope project. Whenever I would mention another part I needed for the scope, she could usually guess within ten bucks how much it would cost.

My wife (CFO) doesn't ask too much about what I buy. Probably because she outspends me as a general rule. My fiscal conscience usually keeps me in check.

I'm in your group Rob. I look the other way when she comes home with clothes and shoes and she does the same. I thought I was going to get it when she found out what I spent on my 31T5 but nothing was said!
I hide what I can just to be safe though.

Started on a mirror box this weekend
I don't have a lot of power tools so the old jigsaw was the first choice for sizeing the ply .. I tried screwing some metal box to the ply to get a straight cut .. this turned out to be a rather stupid idea ( I have lots tucked away:)) The saw vibrates against the steel and makes it impossible to get a straight cut ..dispensed with and freehand .
