Hi all,
On Sunday night I took my first attempt at the Veil. Given that my camera is unmodded and mount is unguided, I'm pretty happy with the raw results.
I did screw up in the processing however: clipped some of the bright end of the histogram such that brighter star centers are washed out ... I will go back and reprocess when I have time. Anyway, here are the details:
Scope: SkyWatcher Equinox 80 APO
Mount: CG-5 ASGT (unguided)
Camera: Canon 350D at prime focus, ISO1600
Exposure: 37x120second lights (74 min), 8 darks
Processing: DeepSkyStacker, Photoshop CS2
A larger version (cropped to remove amp glow, resized 50%) available here (700kb).
Feedback and suggestions always welcome!
Thanks,
Adam

Fantastic photo! I wish my SVP mount could track that well unguided... I get visible R.A. smearing in as little as 8 seconds through my 80ED (although piggybacking a wide-angle lens works well for at least 10 minutes).

Well done, Adam. It's hard to process images like those (IMHO)with all the stars from the milky way.

That's hilarious I was just going to ask why you decided to go back to taking images with the unmodded camera. Both results are excellent. Of course your later version is even better
