My ambient temperature is 30 degrees cooler, my dew point is 28 degrees lower, and I haven't done a lick of work in nearly two years. I got hugs at TSP from Judy and Steph, Diane, and Erika, while Dennis didn't even show up to give you a hug.

Have you given any serious thought into whether you might, well, you know - be in the other place?

Can't be - I get three weeks off each year, one of which I use to go to TSP. Has to be paradise...

You're easily pleased You know, since you won't use your scope again until this fall, I could give it a good home here in California every summer and keep it safe from mold and mildew. I'll just drive it home from TSP 2008, and return it to you the first day of TSP 2009. Sound like a deal? Free storage, and I'll only charge you $100/year for transportation and expenses. Don't let this great opportunity slip through your fingers

Why the hesitation? Let me guess. Dennis is offering you a better deal?

Well, it's kind of a sentimental thing, you know...

Just for those of you who might be concerned about next year's TSP in June, here's a capture of what it's like out there right now (almost three weeks later than TSP will be). In particular, look at the humidity. Of course, no guarantees, but this is virtually identical to the conditions we experienced on a trip to Fort Davis in June of 2006. All in all, it was actually much more comfortable than 90F is here at home. The forecast for this week actually shows highs in mid to upper 80s, so it might be even cooler. Who knows.

June's a bit later than normal for TSP, surely? What time does it get dark there, bearing in mind that in June there are less hours of darkness?

You lose about 1/2 an hour of darkness each night (comparing May 4, 2008 to June 1, 2008). The Milky Way rises and gets to the meridian about an hour and 45 minutes earlier, which means you get a lot more viewing opportunities in that region earlier and at higher altitudes in the sky.

Hello

This past TSP I had the pleasure of setting up the night before and use my 12" LX200 visually for about 6 hours. This was without a doubt the best I have ever seen with that scope and I soon realized what I have been missing these past couple years doing mostly imaging.

So, a couple weeks ago I became the proud owner of a non-goto scope, a 12" lightbridge. Small by TSP standards but a good start.

The past couple weeks I have learned more, and have had a blast learning the night sky like I have never had to before. Even broke down and bought a sky chart.

Last week a friend and I went to a girl scout camp did an astronomy night and had a great time showing girls of all ages the planets, moon, and other brighter objects. Best part was when the guidence counselors stayed late oops

I can't wait to get this thing under those dark Texas skies and star hop around the skies, while imaging with the other scope of course. And I think I will even be game to try one of those observing challenges to.

Anyways, someone needs to start the count down.

As far as wether goes, the overall patterns ARE getting more weird and hard to predict. I only recall one TSP before during June, that was 1983, my first. I was there 5 nights and 4 of them were absolutely perfect. I have
no idea what the weather will be like next June. For example, right now my yard is a swamp.

I don't know for Ft Davis but in N. Texas we have now surpassed our annual rian fall amount in only 6 months. Histrorically the weather is good at TSP during May and June. this year has jsut been a freak of nature.

CS!!
