This is a really interesting product since the Aluminum tubes are set to be here in the next few weeks. The TMB 80 Carbon Fiber Edition willl have a hard case and a world class 2" Feather Touch Focuser. The scope is baffled and flocked and is a knockout. The price is really nice as well...$1395 for Carbon Fiber and a Feather Touch focuser. Check out the pics.

This is the prototype tube, but is very close to the finished look.

Holy cow- that is beautiful!
1. When will it be available? Will it come with a tube ring?
2. Does the dew shield set screw mar the surface at all? Is it necessary at all?
3. Where do I sign up? (Really)
4. How does Mr. Back compare this new triplet's performance to his lofted F6 80mm LOMO-made lenses?
Thanks!

1. In about 60 days or less. 2. The set screw is teflon tipped so no issue with marring. The screw is nice since the machined pieces are fairly heavy compared to the CF. 3. Feel free to contact astronomics to get on the list. You can get in touch with Pete at questions@astronomics.com 4. He was very happy with the design and performance. It is a tad slower then the LOMO sourced lenses, but if Tom didn't have any faith in it he wouldn't bring it out.

Tom will have two tubes, the standard white and black with the standard crayford and then the CF and Black with the FeatherTouch.

Why is it that most CF scopes I see have the weave on the tube and dewshield going in different directions? It would look better if the tube/dewshield weaves looked like // instead of /\. I understand it's a prototype, but I've seen the same thing on production scopes as well.

I assume it is to provide contrast to the scope.

Thanks for the info, Mike! You didn't mention whether there will be a tube ring, though...
As far as the weave patterns, I agree with Rob. I like the // pattern better.

It looks like it will come with a clam shell type tube ring. I can ask Tom to have them match the weave.

Maybe it's too early to know this, but do you know how much the CF version weighs? And maybe its extended and retracted lengths?

It felt light. I would guess 6 pounds. I didn't weight it when I was in the office. I am home with an entire sick family. I will get the dimensions early next week.

Mike,
Is the triplet cemented or air spaced? Or one of each??
Thanks,

One would hope that it's air spaced.
