Hello Reflectorites...
I'm going to send my daughter in Chicago a new Orion XT8 Classic dob for her 35th birthday next month for her and her husband and my 2 granddaughters to enjoy.
They have a new Toyota Sienna minivan, and I asked her to measure the width of the third row seat and the cargo area behind it to see if there was enough room for the telescope tube.
Does anyone know the length of the XT8 tube?
Thanks... HAL

THANKS, BOB!
I'll let my daughter know and she can determine if her vehicle has the room for transporting the scope to remote observing sites.

It is a very nice gift, Hal, and it should fit OK. But shipping is expensive and she needs to doublecheck.

Hey Hal.
If your daughter and her family do any recreating out in NW Illinois (Galena area)...as many folks from Chicago and the collar counties do..., there are some nice dark skies out there. My family and I often go up on the weekends to work at my brother's vineyard/winery (located near Galena), and I sometimes bring my scope up there for some viewing from the vineyard. It's not like being at 14,000 feet, but I'll take it. If they do venture out that way and wish to bring a scope, I'd be happy to give some ideas for places to view from or have a mini star party.
Have a good one! -Matt

I fit my XT8 across the back-seat or across the trunk of my Ford Focus 4-dr sedan. It should fit easily in her mini-van.

Hi Hal,
It will fit. My 2005 Sienna's cargo area measures 21" by 48".

Thanks everybody!
I'll send her the XT8 Classic, regardless of the shipping cost!
Heck...the shipping cost can't be more than the price of the telescope, which is only $369.95!
