Congrads young man....
Looks like an 8iSe... same as my 8i but a slightly different color...lol
What version Hand controller did you get with the scope...? The 8iSe initially came with version 2.x and used North and Level technology the later 8iSe came with Version 4.x and used Skyalign...
Just curious ???

I don't think it's the 4.x version Bob. Is there a way to tell? I don't have the original owners manual to check the specs. I'm learning my scope from a 8iSE manual in pdf format so it's kinda generic.

Just bought myself a SE 8 w/ Motofocus part #94142, unbenownst to me that the focuser was the wrong one...using my erector set I was able to make it work beautifully.
I will be receiving a Solar filter and Neximage camera...
I have the scope hooked up to a laptop where I use Stellarium and Stellariumscope as a control base.
Now to wait for the skies to clear up here in Washington St.

K-Dub:
I have no idea of what my Motofocus model number is... But I have been using a Celestron MF that looks identical to the one you have (clearer picture of the MF only was on another site...
Just curious as to what you had to do to make it work...?? mine did not require anything ..
If I am not mistaken Tel also runs a MF that also looks like yours...
BTW mine is a good 5-6 years old...gets lot of use and I honestly can not remember the last time I had to change the batteries...they last a long long time

Hi K-Dub,
A very warm welcome to CN and to this forum in particular.
As Bob says, I too use a Celestron Motofocus #94142 on my older Nexstar 8i as he does on his, so I too was a little intrigued to know what you had to do to make it work.
Could it be that you're referring to, if I recall correctly, these "Motofocus" units being advertised for use only on the Celestron CPC 8" and 11" 'scopes with no mention of them fitting the the SE series ? If so, it's an oversight: they do of course work on these models.
When I bought mine for my Nexstar 8i, they could be of course be fitted to the focusing knob as with the newer SE series, but they did have limited use because they would, without due care on my part, strike the base of the mount if the tube, then "fixed to the arm", was elevated to only about 60 degrees.
However, I bought the "Motofocus" in anticipation that shortly afterwards I would be buying a "Ray's Bracket" to allow adjustment of my 'scope's tube to produce full base clearance and thus be capable of accessing the zenith.

Does this perhaps refer to what you mean when you say you "made it to work" ?
No real matter though, the main thing is that your "Motofocus" is functioning. Your investment was well worth it !
Best Regards, Tel

I should qualify what I said about the "Motofocus" unit fitting the SE Series.
It will definitely fit the N8SE, N8iSE, N8i, and I think, the N8. I'm also pretty sure that it will equally fit the N6SE but not the 5" and 4" SEs or their forerunners.
Best regards, Tel

Hi everyone! This is my first contribution to this great forum, just purchased a new nexstar 6 se a few weeks ago after several months of observing the sky with 15x70 binoculars. I don't post a picture of it cause it's just a "plain" nexstar :-) no tunnig yet I'm thinking of getting new eyepieces and diagonal and I've looked at hyperions and william optics dielectric diagonals, now the question is: 1.25" or 2" diagonal? is it worth the extra money for a 2" diagonal on a nexstar 6? 31/36 EPs are in my mind, as well as 8
Best regards from Spain!

And it works well. Last night I was able to get in the entire Pleiades. The Double Cluster looks spectacular through the Panoptic. No vignetting which is truly amazing when you consider how small the actual opening is on a 6SE.
