Just a idea. People could post details of their weather stations and if they have them - websites on a special thread. Thoughts?

This is a good idea.
It would be nice to hear from those who already have a personal weather station (PWS).
• PWS equipment setup. • Photographs of PWS setup. • Type of PWS data collected. • PWS data collection do's and don'ts. • Software available to trend and analyze PWS data. • Comparison of PWS data with local, regional, and national services. • And much much more. . .

I didn't notice this thread until I had already posted elsewhere, but here is a photo of my extremely high-tech weather station.
My explanation of the weather station and it's components is located in this other thread : (and more photos)

The three-instrument panel in your post is quite accurate. I have had one like that for years and checked it against our professional met-instruments at work a few times to find that the temp and humidity were right on. We had two types of humidity measuring, i.e., climitometer and relative humidity. Our met-station, I think was Young or some company like that, I had it inputting to a PC via RS232 and recorded all the meteorology stuff at our USNO stations in Miami.

My weather station is a Davis Wireless Vantage Pro. The station features an addon called a Weather Envoy, which is used to get the temp, humidity, wind speed and wind direction from the wireless outdoor unit to the weather PC. The Weather Envoy also functions as a temp humidity sensor. Since the Weather Envoy resides in the observatory it provides the climate data for inside the observatory. The Weather Envoy is connected to Weather Server PC that resides inside the house. The connection is via RS-232 at a data rate of 19200 baud. The Davis software WeatherLink 5.56 is used to process, display and upload the data from both the Envoy and the Weather Station to 3 places: My website, UnderGround Weather and the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP).
Besides running the Davis Weatherlink software the weather server also runs other weather related software and interfaces with other hardware. One of those pieces of hardware is the Boltwood Cloud and Rain sensor. This device is used to help execute a controlled closure of the observatory’s shutters should the sky become very cloudy or if it rains or snows. The connection between the Cloud Sensor and the observatory’s shutters is via a DIY wireless link.
Another weather related device connected to the Weather Server is a Boltek Lightning Detector. It monitors lightning strikes within a 300 mile radius of the observatory. This data is uploaded to StrikeStar. StikeStar is a network of Boltek lightning detectors. That data is correlated and can be accessed via the StrikeStar website or the WASP client on your local machine.
The weather server also controls the AllSky camera. The SBIG AllSky camera is used to monitor the sky for meteors, satellites and clouds. When the AllSky camera is not in meteor mode it is setup to takes 20 second images of the sky from dark to to just before dawn via a CCDSoft and script running under SBScripte6. There is also a weather camera at the observatory. That camera can be pointed at the observatory and the eastern sky and is user controllable. Images from this camera are also uploaded to the Underground Weather website.
In addition to the local terrestrial weather, the Weather Server also monitors space weather. This is accomplished by using Solar Terrestrial Dispatch Space Weather Information Monitor software (STD SWIM). STD SWIM automatically downloads information at user defined intervals to the observatory's weather computer. This information provides alerts and data about solar activity, such as Sun Spots, Solar Flares, the Solar Wind, including real-time Aurora Borealis watches, warnings and sightings. The software can be customized to retrieve and display data or images from just about any website. The data does not have to be limited to space weather. Complete world wide terrestrial weather data, including spacecraft and radar imagery, as well as forecast maps are also retrieved every 30 minutes. Another way the STD SWIM software is used by the observatory is to retrieve images provided by Night-Sky cameras from various observatories. This allows near real-time 180 degree views of the night sky from around the world 24 hours a day.

Boy, I need to get with the program and upgrade my collection of second-hand analog instruments!
My little gauges are accurate for the most part, but they don't give me a wide range of data.

yeah but you never worry about those analog instruments during a lightning storm, and as Randy's image showes they also never need batteries. Plus there is something aesthetically pleasing about brass and wood gages.

I agree with Marcus.
I saw a BEAUTIFUL set of analog guages in a store in Belgium. It even had a mercury pool barometer. If I had thought there was any way to get it home in one piece, I'd have bought it. (Of course, I think it would have been close to $1000, so that was a bit of an impediment also.)

I have one of those nifty Galilean thermometers with the glass balls suspended in liquid. But it's too fragile to use outdoors. Maybe I will get a cheaper one to put on the porch. The one I have now is large and was pretty expensive.

Ok, since it's a brand new toy for me, and I'm enjoying twiddling with it a bunch,,,, Here is a shot of the "Main Station", hooked up to the computer running "Weather Display" software. The software that came with the unit did not seem very good. Right now, I'm running the trial version of Weather Display, but if I can get everything running, I'll register it.

The whole rig in the above picture will eventually go out to the observatory, an serve as the observatory computer also. Here is a shot of the wind gauge and rain gauge. They transmit via wire....

Here's my main barometer. It's an 8" brass Milford Guild made in England. I like the esthetics and it's accurate to boot. It will be interesting to compare it's readings to my new electronic station.
