Thanks all for the information and for the welcome. Nothing against my Orion XTi, but it's the only telescope I've seen so I'm really looking forward to seeing all of the variety that's out there. A 25" Dob? I may have to snap a photo of that, if that's all right.
The longest observing session I've had is about 4 hours so I can't imagine how long of an observing list I'll have to make. I usually observe with my laptop running Cartes du Ciel (with night vision on, but it's still bright). Do others use their laptops or are they considered a light polluting nuisance?
Thanks again everybody. I will be at the the EVAC meetings you mentioned and look forward to meeting all of you there or at the AASP.

For my first star party I arrived with my Pronto. I'd say you are ahead of the game already.
Folks do use laptops but take pains to attenuate the light polution with gel sheets, cardboard boxes, trailers etc. Whatever they can afford and works.

The CN contingent generally gathers over on the west side of the field. If you set up over there with us, and aim the screen away from the scopes, there will be no one behind you to be bothered.

Hey guys I am new to this forum but I have been to the All Arizona Messier Marathon so I already know the observing site. But I heard this is a good forum to find people before the event so you know whos coming and who to set up by. I cant wait for it. I will just be there for Saturday but I hope to be able to meet a few of you whom I havent already met. Clear Skies.

You've seen Scopasaurus at GCSP! If work allows, I'll be there from Friday afternoon until Sunday AM. If my launch at Vandenberg slips, don't know.

Skylook, just wanted to know where you will be planning to set up? Maybe I can set up close by like the GCSP. Let me know. Clear Skies.

What Scott said (both points). As you enter the field from the northwest corner, note the shrub/bush line down the west edge to your right, about half way down. The hospitality tent has been set up a bit south of us along that edge of the field.

You know, from my North facing back yard in Marana, I can often see clear skies up your when when we're getting pounded.
Last night, lost all water pressure and (GASP!) cable TV for a couple of hours.

Plan A is to bring only the NS11 and leave the 16" at home. The new cars' deck is too high to set the mirror box in without scratching the heck out of it or wrecking my back.
Another reason to rebuild the old beast.
I think I should build a box to hold the NS11 and its' foam it was packed in. In the van I was able to insert the scope into the foam once the foam was in the van. Can't do it that way anymore.
May whip out a smaller chair too. Can't have Tom having the only maple seat out there!
