Hi everyone! new to the forum, hope u can help with some questions. Just got my scope, fired it up and it never asked what scope I had. Anybody see this as a problem? Second, with the supplied EP's what can I realistically see, before i need to get the EP kit?

Brodie I also have a 130GT, There is a menu selection that alows you to select this. I don't have the manuals with me but there is a flowchart layout of the HC menu in one of the manuals that I have read. Ifd you can't find this page just let me know I will dig it up, I only had to set this option once when I first got my scope and since then I have never checked it again.

Brodie, Welcome to CN!! It won't ask what scope you have. It already knows. Tell us what ep's you have, and we'll tell you if you need the ep kit. Pete

You can verify the scope model ID by using Menu > Utilities > and scroll to Select Models > press Enter .
My 130GT doesn't include itself in that menu. Use the 114Gt selection. As far as the EP's go, the stock 10mm and 25mm EP's are adequate as a bare start, but don't come close to matching the capabilities of the scope. I suggest buying the Celestron EP accessory kit. It contains Plossls in 4mm (not very useable, like looking through a SMALL soda straw), 6mm (OK in GREAT seeing, still tight in the view), 9mm (decent), 15mm (decent), and 32mm (GOOD). It also has a 2x Barlow and a nice filter selection - in a nifty case. You can get it for around $100 if you shop around. That will get you started in trying out different EP's.
I also suggest purchasing "The NexStar User's Guide", by Michael Swanson. TONS of good info for NexStar users in it. There's also a GREAT website to check out....

Have fun with your 130GT!
