Hi, I know that it's been more than half a year later, but I'd like you to show a composition of the lunar eclipse of last march. I've recently combined different images in registax, something I didn't did after the eclipse.
So, here is a composition made with a 350d (unmodded) and a WO 66mm SD at f/5.9: the first and last 2 stages of the eclipse consist of a stack of 5 individual frames (1/800 and 1/400 sec @ iso 200), the beginning and end of totality of 9 and mid-totality of 13 frames (all 2 sec @ 200), all stacked in Registax. The starry background is also a stack of 13 frames, made with IRIS. Levels, curves, unsharpmask and composition made in PSP (where I used longer exposures as refference frame to correctly locate the first and last stages).
Full res
I hope you'll like it... Clear skies!

That is a stunning presentation and quite 3-D in appearance - super sharp images, too !
Great work !

Awesome composition! So I want to be clear on how you did this because I'd like to be ready for the next one....
It appears that you set up your camera and didn't move it for the entire shoot, is this correct?
Each of the seven positions shown in the composite are an individual stack, is this correct?
Thanks.

Maarten, this is a spectacular rendering of this beautiful lunar eclipse! Your composition gives it a cool "3D" touch, which I like

thank for the friendly comments...
curt, I let my scope follow the stars, so the moon travelled through the images. I indeed stacked several photo's for each stack, which I give the correct position on the composition by taking a longer shot in between, on which the stars were visible (this because my tracking isn't good enough to simply put the images over each other). The background is the same stack as mid-eclipse, only now with the stars alligned and the blurred moon blocked out. hope this is enough info? clear skies...

Thanks maarten, I think I understand. So for each of the seven positions that the moon was photographed in, you also took seven long exposures in which the moon was blown out but the stars behind it were visible. Then you used those images to register everything....right?
