Guiding a Newtonian new
      #1921926 - 10/19/07 01:15 PM

I was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions on how to manually guide a newtonian without a guidescope. I thought off-axis guiding sounded pretty good, but everywhere I've looked the off-axis guiders say that they are for cassegrains only.

Is that because of something in the way the optics work or just simply the way it connects to the threads? I have a C10 and it has a built in T-Adapter on the 1.25 focuser. I figured the guider would just attach there.

But so far I havent really found any information about guiding a reflector. Anyone have any input?

The problem with newtonians is focusser travel. If you add an off-axis guider in there it will take up focusser travel and you probably won't be able to focus the camera. That, and they are usually diagonals which don't often work well on a newtonian.
