Greg, the All Arizona Messier Marathon 2008 would be a great way to thaw out from a Northeast winter.

Yikes Jim! I hope it goes well.

Thanks, Diane. I'm a total basket case for days before dental appointments, including cleanings.

So, I'm trying to concentrate intensely on the weekend...I'm afraid the dentist will say something like "Let's take care of that, and those other two things you didn't know about, in two weeks." Might as well do astronomy; I won't be sleeping!

Well, the nightmare is almost over. As I feared, when the work began on the tooth the day before AASP07, it was an immediate "No way; too much to do. Lets postpone it a week." Well, yesterday was the event. Only took an hour or so of jackhammer and dynamite. It came out in three main pieces, and other debris. And guess what? After the anaesthetic, zero pain! And none since (give credit to alternating oxycodone and 800mg Ibuprofen); haven't needed pain meds for the last 10 hours. Just been petrified about the potential dry socket.

So, back on topic, it was a good weekend at AASP07 since no dental work occured the day before.

Glad I wasn't there!

AAMM '08 does not appear to be on the calendar yet. If memory serves, this website for the Saguaro Astronomy Club that sponsors that party should have the details as soon as they are available.

But to catch all Messier Objects wouldn't a date pushed into April be better?

And warmer!?

Jim, I had to have a broken tooth removed not long ago. I got the dreaded dry socket. I wouldn't wish it on anyone ever. I'm pulling for you and am so glad to hear you are doing so well.

Which? Diane's dry socket, or AAMM07's 105 degree fiesta?

To paraphrase desertstars' observation, we like the heat; we're smart enough not to spend much time out in it!

90s day, low 70s night would be kinda nice.

The date for the 2008 All-Az Messier Marathon is Saturday, April 5 at the Farnsworth Ranch site. Having it a little later this time around (naturally being dictated by the proximity of a new moon to a weekend) will make M74 and M77 a little lower in the west at twilight, but it will allow us a little more time on Sunday morning to nab M30 in the glow of the Old Pueblo before the sunrise.

I'm putting together a webpage with lots of pictures of the 2007 AASP.

Check it out at:
http://www.aznightsky.com/AASP07.htm

It is a work in progress. I would appreciate anyone filling in peoples names or corrections of details.

Thanks! And thanks to Kevin for letting me use some of the pictures he posted here. Also thanks to Ron (assuming it is OK with him as I haven't heard back yet) for some of his pictures too. I'll provide credit on their pictures soon.

Some nice views, Chris, of the twilight wedge in the pictures - that less-than-subtle color palette on the horizon opposite sunset (and sunrise, for the dawn wedge).

Chris,

FYI, the 30" telescope that you had such great views through is owned by Don Jones, who is a math professor at ASU (and sax player extrodinaire). He recently took his Obsession version of this telescope to Tom Osypowski's place east of Sacramento, who completely rebuilt it with one of his SlipStream Go-To drives. Complete with an Argo Navis, the thing works like a charm.
