and currently overhead before midnight is faint currently [AAVSO] but can pop-up to mag 12 unexpectedly - BL Lac is a AGN / quasar and one of the most remote VS one can observe. Gary Poyner [Birmingham UK] observes it visually and regularly. My pic from last night here.

Cool image. BL Lac looks quite faint. Do you have any idea of its magnitude?

Just answered my own question. according to the AAVSO LCG BL is about mag 14.8. Looks like there was a quick drop in magnitude a couple of weeks ago.
