Being a NW Construction worker , One way to appease the gods is to wear your raingear. If everyone wears their raingear all the way there and keep it on throughout, we may get some 'sucker holes'.

Phil, you just might be on to something. Wearing cumbersome raingear is the only proven way I know of keeping the rain at bay. I haven't tried it for astronomy, but it sure does work for construction.

How bad is it looking? Possibly some holes to shoot for? Why don't we all convoy down (south) until we hit clear skies? If we make it to AZ. i'm sure we could stay at my folks back yard in Tucson.

I'm still seeing 'partly cloudy' with no mention of rain on accuweather.
White River Canyon Clear Sky Clock shows partly clear with decent seeing. It's seems to have improved over the last few hours.

I figure the clear, blue skies when I woke up were a sign. I'll certainly be headed down. I've got to spend a couple of hours at the office, then my goal is to get out of Tacoma by 4:00, 5:00 at the very latest.

We're leaving sometime between 3:00 and 4:00. I plan to look for a motel along Hwy. 26 on the way up and check in and get my room key. Choices might be limited at 2:00 a.m. or whenever.

The clear sky clock shows complet cloud cover. I'm not sure where you saw partly cloudy, and good seeing, but i can't find a weather report that says it's going to be clear, or partly clear. Also the NWS / NOAA is saying pure clouds. So, it looks like we have two sources that say cloudy. The clear sky clock, and the NWS. I'd hate for everyone to come down and find complet cloud cover. From my house, i can see Mt. Hood, well on a clear day , but right know it's blocked with clouds.

Jeeves! Pour cold water on that Naysayer!
More seriously, thanks for the word. At this point though I think I'll probably defy common sense and still head down. Worst case scenario: I maybe get in a bit of a hike, toss a frisbee with whoever else shows up, cook a steak, drink a beer or two, read a book for a while, and spend a comfortable night in the parking lot on a cot in my sleeping bag, listening to the coyotes sing.

Folks, Robert is right. We are socked in here. My mom live is Sandy and she says its densely cloudy. I have a clear view to the west to see what's headed in and it is thick clouds to the Coast Range. Not a break in sight. I'll drive up to meet anyone who's still coming but I have a deep suspicion that we're gonna want to turn back around and head to town for beer and pizza real soon. Totally bummed,Julia

Beer & pizza would be a nice consolation, but I'm still gonna hope for better skies. I'm just leaving Seattle now. Whoever shows up, I'll see you there.

Portlanders beware. This is likely to cause Mt. Hood to erupt.

Hope you all who are going are ready for rain. I just came down from Mt Bachelor Star Party and the great Gray Nebula was weeping lightly at about 2:30 pm. We're still hoping for some holes but it doesn't look good. Think I'll save the gas and just go back up to MBSP for the speaker tonight and hook up with you folks when te sky clears. Hope we ALL get those sucker holes we're praying for
