I subscribe to S&T for its diversified offering.
In addition I subscribe to 'Heelal' as a member of the 'Vereniging Voor Sterrenkunde' (a Belgian astronomy association for Dutch speaking people).
I live in bright skies and this means my deep sky observing sessions are not very frequent at the moment. I often use resources on CN to select DSO targets to observe, much less the magazines I am subscribed to.

Hi all,
Interesting mention earlier of the Whirlpool Star Party. It was held in Birr the weekend before last and had a great line-up of speakers. Sue French delivered the David Lunt Memorial Lecture after the Saturday night dinner. Both the Friday and Saturday night were clear for observing from the grounds of Birr Castle, in the lee of the historic 72-inch telescope. Sadly, there are still engineering issues with the Leviathan so it was once again not available to us to use. It was restored a number of years ago but has had some problems with not just the mechanics, but the health and safety issues of people climbing those steep steps in the dark!
I did not make all the lectures but everybody agreed it was one of the best range of talks for some time. My highlights were Dr David Asher of Armagh Observatory talking about meteor storms (meteor astronomy is one of my main interests in the hobby) and Dr John Mason on Galactic Supernovae. Chris Lintott, a co-presenter of the BBC's Sky and Night programme, also gave a highly entertaining talk.
Anyways, back to magazines
I subscribe to Sky and Telescope, Astronomy, Astronomy Now (UK), and Ciel et Espace (French). No major preference of any one over the other -- just still have that thirst for reading anything that pops in the letter box (yes, even the junk mail sometimes!)
Each magazine can be great one month and not too interesting the next. I admit not to reading each page but like to archive the stuff for future reference. In fact, I've S&T from 1971, Astronomy from 1974, and Astronomy Now from the first issue in 1987. I make these and my collection of 300+ books available to our club members to borrow or read through.
All the best,
John

I like Sky & Telescope magazine! Its much longer years than some astronomy magazines! Much deeper in details, update information, review on products and a month ahead to know what's going on at night! Subscribe is much cheaper than buy a magazine every month at the store! I like Astronomy magazine but I pick one for subscribe is S & T !

I have a subscription to S&T. I also like Amateur Astronomy however after subscribing for a year and then getting some back issues, it was pretty clear that for a quarterly magazine you could almost predict what was going to be in each issue. I have not seen any of the current issues since Tom gave his editor duties to the new editor. Maybe things have changed.

The first AA under new ownership seemed the same, the second seems to stress high tech more, but too soon to see a trend.
