AWESOME!

You managed to capture a very tough subject like that with afocal projection???? Wow!

Get yourself a DSLR and your images will rock even more!

Congratulations!

Very nice image shot through an eyepiece. Usually you see the HH taken at prime focus, and with a modded DSLR (or better).

thanks for the comments. as pleased as i am with this effort, i think i can do better. the moon was up, orion was still fairly low in the sky, and transparency was only fair. processing could be better as the background is too light for my tastes, but the HH was lost when i set the background right. better transparency should help with that, i think.

during new moon i plan to get out of the backyard and go to darker skies for another go.

Very nice image - can't believe it's afocal...

How was your camera mounted?

Colored me shocked. I am really amazed you recorded the Horsehead Nebula throug afocal method. Great image! Just curious, how was the sky condition at the time? You got me wanting to image even more. So green with envy.

thanks for the compliments! i really think i can do better, and will give it another try to find out.

Matt: i was using a universal digicam adapter i bought from scopestuff.

Ptarmigan: sky conditions were far from ideal. the moon was up, and transparency went from average to below average. some high thin clouds were floating in over the last couple sets of subs.

hmmm...with the time change maybe ill try again tonight. no work tomorrow morning...

well, gave it another shot. transparency was much better, but poor tracking and dead batteries meant i could only stack 27 subs. the hh stands out better to me, though. still a work in progress.
