As promised, a panorama of my new yard south of Athens in Yellow skies, with only 6-8° obscuration by trees in the South !! The entirte horizon is pretty good, and this view from my putative observing spot is probably a greater than 270° span, from northeast to northwest!

Really nice, Mark! I'm glad y'all got that house, I was hoping you would after you'd posted about it before.
And Carol -- don't start THAT again.

Oh yeah, and plus, I wasn't singling Steph out, it's just that now that I know her username (long story) I wanted to cement it into my blockhead brain with a post...

The only suggestion I'd make is to get that house out of the way, as it will block some of your view...
Note that I'm in no way envious...

I did take a drive down there after dark on Saturday night (11-3). The Milky way was readily apparent, although not so obvious as I've seen it in SE CT. I attribute this to the temperature - low 60s. Although I will say that I then drove south about 8 miles, and the Milky Way was more prominent. OK, the scientist in me says, could be later and therefore better, and so I drove BACK to the home site - nope, same Milky Way...I so hope this site in Yellow skies will be at least as good as my site in CT.
OTOH, whatever it is, it is, get over it and get on with it !

Thanks all!
Last night we had a business dinner, and I was out past dark....so I took a drive down to our new home.....it was in the mid 40s, clear, dry, and transparent....the Milky Way was much more obvious, with much detail, and even a glimpse of granularity...I am hopeful!
Comet Holmes was also up, readily apparent, seems to be fading a bit now, estimated the mag at 3.2-3.3 or so...
There are lots of new stars I've never seen before !!! I saw Alpha and Beta Gruis last night, apparently right around culmination! And....I ***think*** there are 5° additional room for Canopus....remains to be seen. Unless I am mistaken, it ought to culminate around midnight on Jan 8 !!!
