This exceptionally well-made and stable Astro-Tech Voyager altazimuth mount can be the heart of your very portable telescope/mount system. It is perfect for grab-and-go terrestrial observing and casual visual astronomy. The lightweight all-metal Astro-Tech Voyager can hold substantial optical tubes weighing up to 20 pounds (9kg), but there are no heavy counterweights to attach to balance a heavy tube and no alignment on the celestial pole needed to start observing. Simply slide your optical tube into the Vixen-style dovetail on the Voyager mount’s altitude axis and start viewing. All this for $299. Delivery to begin Mid January.

For the price, it looks like a mighty fine mount and tripod. Is the tripod similar to Vixen HAL 110?

I will double check, but I believe it will attach to other tripods like the surveyor type with a hole in the top of the head. It will be a few hours until I get in the office.

Forgot to finish my thought. I am not sure it will take a 3/8" post.

It will not accept a 3/8" bolt. The mount is cut to take a seat inside the tripod and is attached with a 16mm bolt.

Sounds similar to how the Atlas mounts on it's tripod.

Can you buy the mount without the tripod? If so, at what cost? -- I have a GP-D2 mount with the HAL110 tripod.

Two questions:
1. Does it come with a tripod tray? Sure would help to make it more solid.
2. Is it fitted for encoders/DSCs?

At this time the tripod is standard with the mount and the head is not for sale. It could be something they do in the future.
No tripod tray as standard equipment. The decision was made so the mount could be picked up and get going out the door. The tray would slow that down. However, I am sure there will be a tripod tray option.
They are working on the encoders right now. We expect to see them in the near future.

Thanks Mike. What do you think of a combo of this mount and my TV140? With the rings, total OTA load is approx 16lbs - am I pushing the capacity?

I think it will work when balanced properly. We had the 6" protoduction scope on it and it comes in at 20 pounds. It held and worked very well, but you could feel the weight of the scope as you moved it up with the Slo-Mo controls. I would think that 16 pounds would push the mount to a usable limit for everyday operation. The original quote to us was 11kg payload. So they think 24 pounds. It will hold it, I just don't think it will work very well. So we dropped it to 20.

No problem. I hope I was able to help. I am sure one will get to CN in the near future for review.

This looks like the same clone of the Tak Teegul-L (non-Lapides mod) that has been sold here in Japan for about a year. It suffers from the exact same problems as the Teegul. I took one home to test drive and almost lost a TSA102 with this!
Trust me, you do NOT want to hang more than 5# off of this when the scope is between the tripod legs. Step away and the scope will almost certainly fall over in the slightest breeze.
