Admittedly that is quite an elaborate set up. but at least it is earthquake-proof. Can a C5 be mounted on a standard Camera tripod?

yes, under the dovetail bar on my c5 there is 2, 1/4"-20 threaded holes, one in the back and one in the front for mounting on a camera tripod head. im looking into astronomics new alt azimuth mount ( astro-tech voyager ) it will hold up to 20 lbs and has slow motion controls. it weights only 14 lbs. im not much for equat, mounts. with the altazimuth you just take it out side, set it down and start observing. no polar alignment, leveling, motor drives, counter weights, batteries, ac plug-ins, just smooth sailing across the dark skies and when finished, just pick it up and carry in inside. don
