Brandon "70-22" image corrected finder(?) scope new
      #1860974 - 09/23/07 08:21 PM Attachment (109 downloads)

This is another beauty from the past - does anyone have any information about it? It works very well - clear images. I particularly like the dome like eyepiece cap (the eyepiece is not interchangeable.)

Gil,

Now that's one I've never seen or heard of. Very nice find!

Wow, what a cool old Brandon oddball!

I've never seen anything like it either.

How is it optically?

Regards and clear skies,

Not planning to sell in the foreseeable future. I think I'll set it up as a guide scope for awhile. It is nice that it is so light. I'm just wondering if anyone had any info about it. I can't find any reference to it.

When in doubt, contact the manufacturer. Brandon/Vernonscope is still around. Try emailing them with a photo of the scope. They might reply with some info.

It looks like a spotting scope, like you'd use for birding or target shooting.
There was probably a tabletop tripod with it originally.
I've never heard of such a Brandon item before.
Cool find!

It dates back to Chester Brandon (1953-1955? timeframe). The lens was made by Max Bray. I've been told that Don Yeier has the schematics up at Vernonscope. The 22mm Kellner shown is the same I have in my 3" f6 Vernonscope reflector. It sold in the $50 area when new. I'd wager Don would be very interested in this item.

Segue: Chester did alot military contract work [i.e. the WWII Norden bombsite, etc], and if I'm not mistaken many if not all of his 120 or so patents have mysteriously 'disappeared' from the books. He also owned his own island in the Carribean. (You don't buy one of those selling little spotting scopes and eyepieces )

Wow! I've one exactly like it I received from my father, but without the scuffing on the barrel. I believe it is at least 50 years old. It's a neat, compact, lightweight scope for sighting on 100yrd targets.
What do you use yours for?
