Hey guys I just saw that William Optics now has a black SCT crayford focuser!! Is it any good? I have been looking at them for a while, but I didnt want blue, but now that they have black, I would be VERY interested!! Any experiences? Will they fit large celestron threads?

I have one on my 12" LX200R and really enjoy using it. I replaced the stock electronic microfocuser because I like the "feel" of focusing in on an object. And yes, the WO does fit the Celestron back threads.

I use one (a black one too ) on a 7"Mak ; the mechanism is soft and accurate. I recommend it. Just needed an adaptor Mak/Sct thread.

Jon,
I just got an Antares SCT focuser for my C8 last week. It's a dual speed. Has been working very well. Both course and fine focus is very smooth. Holds my 40 Paragon and 56 Meade 4000 very well with no issues. Got it from www.handsonoptics.com. It's not listed on their site, but when I called and asked if they had the GSO SCT focuser he had these instead. Around $120.

I highly recommend the WO SCT dual speed focuser. I believe the Antares is pretty much the same. It is really nice to avoid image shift and the focusing accuracy is much improved.

I see that Scopestuff sells the GSO (I assume it is GSO) SCT focuser. There are two models with different drawtube lengths.

I am guessing that the new WO focuser is the same as the focuser sold by Scopestuff. They certainly look identical. The older model WO focuser had a larger diameter, thinner adapter barrel.

To me, the old style blue WO 2 speed SCT focuser and old style GSO 2 speed SCT focuser look alike. That said, I like the Scopestuff GSO low profile 2 speed Crayford for $120. It has the black indexed drawer tube and a lower profile(3.1"). I don't need to increase the focal length of my f/15 Mak

WELL, I went ahead and ordered the new linear black WO focuser. The focusers on my WO scopes are very nice so I am sure it will be sweet, I just didnt have the extra 100 bucks to get the moonlite that holds the reducer. I am an avid buyer and seller, so I am sure it will be for sale sometime in the near future! lol Thanks for all of your input guys!!

Congrats, jon!
Let us know how it works. I'd like to put a Moonlite on my Mak but don't want to spend that much money for shift free focus.

Thanks Jim, I had a moonlite on my CPC1100 and it was VERY nice, but a little too heavy. It will be interesting to see how this compares. The funny thing is that the scope it is going on wont be here for a week or two! The WO focuser will look great holding down papers until the scope arrives.

Jon:
Yeah, they make good paperweights, as well. I have the older style, blue, WO 2 speed on my older 10" Meade SCT and it works just fine. The focuser is a different shade of blue than the scope, but I'm not so concerned about cosmetic stuff as long as things function properly. I also have the black WO dual speed focuser on my 6 inch achromat, and the red dual speed MoonLite on my Orion ED80. The MoonLite is the smoothest focuser I have ever used. I would like to get one for my MN-66, but am not sure which daw tube length I should purchase. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Regards
Daryl

I really like my WO. I wonder though, the only difference I see with the "new" sct focuser is the extra locking screw for the rotating feature and the gold colored micro knob. I admit I do like the look of the gold knob over the black one I have. My one and only complaint is clearance near zenith which is going to prevent me from going to a 2" diagonal.

The whole mess plus many extras is for sale. PM for details.

Yeah, on a CPC you have a little bit of a clearance issue. Why do they call the new one linear?

Well I'm glad Firestar added the Wyorock link. I've seen these only a few times on site but not allot out there from owners. Pretty impressive and at a good price. Not sure on two things; only offered at single speed and the "bare" aluminum. But I guess the question is just how important is dual speed over single and if the Wyorock Grayford's movement is smooth enough to be close to the dual speed of the GSO/W.O?
