Hi all, considering deep-sky imaging with a SBIG STL11000 CCD camera, which is the best mate among a Takahashi TOA130S (+ field flattener) and a Takahashi Epsilon 180? Thanks

The focuser on my E180 will sag a bit with the STL11000 if the camera is to the side when I tighten down the camera rotator without lifting it a bit. The E180 is very touchy, and it doesn't take much at all to get distortion in the corners of the STL11000. Focusing the E180 by hand is pretty tough too - doable, but the smallest turns I can make by hand make a pretty large difference. I wouldn't expect a TOA130 to be near as fussy.
The E180 has a FL of 500mm and the TOA130 is 1000mm, so the resulting FOV is going to be quite different, so I would tend to consider that first. If you plan on shooting Ha with the STL11000, the the E180 has an edge there as the STL11000 is pretty weak in Ha.

Before I sold my stl-11000 I used it for a bit on my TOA130 (2.7" focuser). I was never satisfied with the amount of vignetting (both with and without a flattener or a reducer) and learned later that you really need the 4" focuser model for that camera. There was never any issue with the 2.7" focuser being able to handle the weight of the stl-11000. So....if you're going to get a TOA and use the stl-11000 with it get the 4" focuser model.
