Advice needed on Hutech 40D, please
      #2062309 - 12/19/07 09:09 PM

I am in the process of swapping out my 20Da for a modded 40D, but have some questions before I do so.

Hutech says that normal photography is fine (w/ an Astronomical filter) using custom WB. Is there agreement on this? Can you easily get accurate color or is it really a pita?

Also is there a source for these other than directly from hutech? They have a waiting list of over a month and I thought maybe a dealer would have one in stock.

Thanks!

Can't say much about the Hutech version but if you go here,
you may find one in stock.

I would take the wait and get the Hutech...

I probably will order one from Hutech. Astrovid shows them on their website, but when I asked about delivery times they were pretty vague and just told me to put in the order to get in line.

I am still curious if the custom WB is really a great pain (and how accurate the colors are)

Thanks

I modded 300D with Baader IR Cut filter and custom WB gives very good results with one exeption of reds. Lips are a bit too red. But I see that because I know where to look. Noone else noticed that.

Hi there

I'm using a Hutech modified 40D and I can't tell you how much of an improvement it is over a stock 350D! Custom WB is really simple and if you're using a grey card for instance it would be even easier and more precise.

Believe me you'll love the features of the 40D

I have the 30D Hutech version. The custom WB was very simple to perform with a standard grey card. Just follow the instruction book.

I'm pretty sure I'll go for it - I have already shipped my 20Da away to its new owner and decided to get a cheap 20D to use before a 40D arrives. So the shipping delay won't kill me.

Thanks for the comments!

The nice thing about the 40D is the live feature actually, this is great for astrophotography. For the rest below that cam (i have a 400D or XTi) when you take photos is a hit or miss on the focus, of course they seel focusers like the stiletto but the 40D already comes with the live feature that makes easy the focus and no need for stiletto focusers.

I am planing to buy a stiletto for my 400D (Xti) because i dont have enought money to buy a 40D is still for me way up in the price (for my income).
