Source picture is a mosaic taken with 4.4" Newton reflector and Canon 350Da, September 19.
3D stereo 'simulation' was made in photoshop by moving horisontally parts of image (with separated stars layer). Finally i'd found that best result was without stars at all - just imagine youself outside of Our Galaxy
Source image, details and other processing samples here
And Here is a larger version

Even without the 3D, this is one of the best M31's I've seen. Excellent work!

HOLY cow!!! That is SO cool!! I was able to get it to look 3D! My eyes hurt from trying for a few minutes, but now that I did it once, it's easy.
Kerry, sit back a ways away, like 3 or 4 feet and go crosseyed at it and let them converge, you will see like 3 images but you will eventually be able to get the middle one to come into perfect focus in 3D.

Thanks
Picrute pair is designed for "Cross-eyed" method of viewing. To see 3D effect, move about 80cm(32") from screen. Then place index finger "between galaxies" at bottom about 25cm (10") from your eyes. Focus eyes on the finger and slowly move it closer/farther, staying focused on your finger, but paying attention to the background images in your peripheral vision. You will see the two middle images moving towards each other. When images are aligned, stop moving your finger. Now you'll see three images in the background. The middle one contains the left/right images overlapped. Just move eyet to this combined image, end let them focus on it. (Much easier to do than to explain ).
You can find more detailed instructions here.
By the way, Stereoscopy is very amazing stuff. There are lot of beautiful stereo-images on the web (Mars and Moon landscapes(!!!), nature, animals)
Look about 5-20 sec and you'll feel the volume of image and 3D structure of galaxy.

Finally I saw it. My problem was that I couldn't get the four images to converge into three. Good stuff! Now I have to take a look through your site for more!!
