I have been an apo fan for many years, but realized that if I wanted any type of aperture, I would need a reflecting type of system. I have purchased an Intes MN76 Mak-Newt. I have found it very capable while allowing extreme magnification for double stars.
My question involves the aluminum coating for the mirror. How often does it need recoated (if ever)? How will I be able to tell? My climate is very dry, but someday I may move to a coastal area. Will that affect the coatings?
Thank you for your help!

I had the MakNewt in my avatar realuminized after about 35 years and couldn't tell the difference. Unless you leave it to the elements (such as inside an observatory w/o climate control), I doubt you'll ever need to recoat it.

Thanks for the response, that's what I wanted to hear. In 35 years I will be, um.....75 and I will probably not notice the difference. Boy, what a concept, keeping one telescope so long! The one I will never sell is a TV-76.
