What is the difference between VMC200L and VC200L?
      #2078198 - 12/27/07 09:39 PM

Can someone really explain the difference between the Vixen VMC200L and the VC200L? Is one any better than the other?

The VMC is a Mak design and the VC is a modified cassegrain design.

Sorry didn't mean to post so fast.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the VMC would be more suited for imaging planets and globs and such. The VC is more of a general purpose modified SCT. Open tube with no corrector and the primary mirror is locked down so it uses a refractor style focuser.

But they are slightly different designs with different strenths. I bet the Mak is more costly to manufacture and so the price is also higher.

The VC200L is a bit more complicated design with so called VISAC correcting system on the secondary. This model is especially designed for astro-photography. It is also about $300 more expensive than the VMC200L.

The latter is more or less Klevtzov variant of Cassegrain, designed more for general and visual use in mind (but it can also succesfully used for astro-photography).

Is there really that much of a difference between both for astrophotography?

I think that the VC200 would be better just because you can get a faster f/ratio, and it would more properly illuminate a 35mm frame.
