Here is my New To Me MI250 in it's new home, ready to go with My 12" LX200 OTA. I'm planning on tandem setup with my WO 105, but for now, I'm still getting use to the Gemini 4. I will be breaking ground on a 10X12 roll-off in the spring that will give me more room around the setup. Who knows, with more room around the scope, I might even buy and eyepiece! Paul

Here's my recently acquired NJP with the little scopes on it. I have a Tandem plate on the way and might be borrowing a larger scope to go on it in a month or two.
The clamshells are too big for each of the scopes I have so they were rigged up with some grippy fabric and hold well (a better solution will be sought - one option is to buy two Takahashi scopes:) )
This is the first time the tripod has EVER touched solid ground.

Nice David!! Is that the Robin Casady CGE saddle I see there??? Did you take the stock saddle off and replace it with the RC? (I know, stupid question!) Or did you put a dovetail on the bottom of the cge saddle and put it in the stock saddle? ALSO I see you replaced the stock dovetail on the C14, is that alot better?

Hi Jeff -- you're not kidding! Mine, as modified, and on the "transportable pier," weighs in at over 360 lbs. without the OTA(s).
Very nice CAVE restoration and D&G! Just curious, what did your restoration consist of -- did you replace the original drive? It looks very similar to the Mathis (except color) I replaced the original drive on my mount with.

Bob:
Thanks.
It's a long story so it's better if I refer you to this link under Observatories:
http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/1977484/page/1/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all/fpart/1
The 10" Mathis drive is "original" in that I scrounged the mount from pieces from various sources including the vendor that made Cave's mounts. The pier, RA, DEC and saddle castings came from a store room at Boston University in 1980, the drive from Mathis. In about 1982, I found the vendor who use to do Cave's mounts and sure enough, he had a bunch of parts laying around that Cave had never paid him for. So we struck a deal and I sent him what I had, minus the pier, ...and a pound of 20's. A few months later he sent me back a beautiful "new" Observatory equatorial head with the Mathis drive, 12" illuminated setting circles and stainles steel shafts, all beautifully crated. Sometimes things work out well.
So the short version is that the drive came with the mount...sort of. It all still works fine too, even after sitting outside for 18 years!
Hope your project goes well and keep us posted, with pictures of course.

Oh man, that MI-250 & pier, the tak tripod and the NJP, that big D&G setup, real showstoppers on this page! Did you guys see that NJP for $3500 the other day, what a steal.

Hey Jon....the Cassady saddle was on it from Paul, who now has the MI250 I had. I had just installed MI's new tip in saddle, so we kind of traded. It's the 250 a few posts before this one. The RC saddle is a simple bolt on addition. Just take the stock saddle off and bolt on the RC saddle.
I like the Losmandy dovetail better than the Celestron dovetail. Just looking at it, you can see it's more solid.

You got that right! I LOVE the MI, Tak and AP stuff. Very elegant looking IMHO and yes, I did see the NJP and yes it was gone before I could sell my first born....again.
How's the TEC 200?!

Nice missle launcher, Kerry!
Here's my humble Telepod head on a Oberwerks wooden tripod. Surprisingly for me, it's been a versatile work horse setup as I've been able to use it satisfyingly with a PST, TV 76, Genesis SDF and a 120ST. Anti-vibration pads help out with the high power views.
I'll probably add the Sky Tour DSC, somewhere down the line.

Jim, will the Sky Tour DSC help you find the Sun when using the PST?
