Denk Big Easy Question
      #2083668 - 12/30/07 04:00 PM

Hi all,

I am about to get a Denk Big Easy package. I intend to use it on an Orion 6" f8 reflector and a SV 102 ED f6.95 refractor. I am particularly drawn to the Denk package because according o the online manual it will provide 1.4X and 2.5X magnifications with both scopes. For me this will reduce the number of EP pairs needed. Does anyone know if there is a looming problem with my plan? If it all works as advertised it will be great. However, with a well thought out plan there always seems to be a fly in the ointment when it comes to the actual application. I hope this isn't the case. If anyone knows any reason the 1.4X/2.5X package will hit a snag with either of these scopes please speak now!

You will have some balance problems and dim DSO in those scopes but it will work much better on a SCT or in the 10" scope once it's balanced.

Thanks for the reply. I have used other binoviewrs in the past and understand their limitations, especially on DSOs. This will be used primarily for Lunar and planetary viewing (something the 6" excels at).

Ok then you'll love it for that. The Moon and Planets and the double double are Awesome with it. I'm thinking about getting the Power Switch for mine I believe it will be 1.2x on the low end and maybe that will brighten things a bit and increase the FOV for the DSOs like for the double cluster. Going back to planet oberving with the Denk you can just use the hollow nose piece with a shorty barlow and get some great high mag L/P views with just some 24mm EP on 1200mm FL scope. Using a regular long 2x barlow the power gets lower compaired to the shorty. Oh and the Sun is Great with the Denk I get some great contast of it with mine.

Happy Stargazing and New Year

Guess I am just lazy but I always found it a pain to change out correctors for different mags. Easier just have more eyepiece pairs. The power x switch is a good solution to this, but then you have to refocus and some scopes don't have enough travel. In the end, I just bit the bullet and bought more eyepiece pairs that are parfocal. I don't clamp the holders down so changing mags is fast and I don't have to refocus. I choose the OCS that is the minimum required to reach focus in a particular scope.

clear skies,
Rick

I started with the Big easy and I soon found that changing the OCS around to get 2.5X was way to time consuming. And I don't like threading and re threading lings in the dark.I did buy the 2" duel arm power switcher for it and now I am in bino heaven.I would just bite the bullet and get the single or duel arm switcher for it,or think to upgrade it down the road,or just buy lots of eyepices.I found the minimum mag for it to be 1.5X with the OCS in low power mode. But with the 2" OCS I get 1.2x with my 32mm eyepieces I get 47X with no vingetting in my 10 dob.I can just frame the double double in the same field.
Enjoy!
