Steve --
Great links! I had discovered the NGC/IC project before and had downloaded the corrected catalog, but I never got into the habit of consulting it. It's certainly the deepest source of historically relevant info I've yet come across.
As another (historical) aside, I believe the NGC was mostly compiled by Dreyer at the Armagh Observatory in the late 1800's. The Armagh Observatory was built in 1790 by the architect Francis Johnston for Archbishop Richard Robinson. Our house was built slightly earlier (around 1785), also by Johnston, and also for the Archbishop (to be his retirement home).
The funny thing is, while I was very interested in history when we bought the house, I had not yet gotten in to astronomy! In any case, when the time did come, I modelled my observatory loosely on the one which houses the Grubb 10" at the Armagh Observatory.
Cheers, -- Jeff.

A few months back, we were messing with M33 under dark skies through an 18" scope. NGC 604 was almost brilliant but many other objects and hints of objects were also apparent. Thanks for including the atlas
