new ST-4000XCM new
      #2021268 - 12/01/07 01:07 PM

Hi all,

I am new to this forum, and this is my first posting, so forgive me if I don't yet have the protocol right. I've noticed while browsing your site a few folks mentioned the new SBIG ST-4000XCM. I ordered (and pre paid) for one early in Oct. The next time I talked to SBIG & the dealer(a couple weeks ago), they said cameras were being shipped to dealers, but nobody seems to have received one yet. The next time I contacted the dealer they said now it might be late Dec. or Jan. Now the dealers website is announcing there is a 4 month wait! Has anybody in your group actually received shipment of an ST-4000XCM, or used one yet? If anybody has an insite re: this I would appreciate your input. Thanks.

Very nice. I'll be anxious to see images as they become available. I might not receive mine for a few weeks!

I've got mine; still learning how to use it but am very happy so far. Now I just need to get it out of my light polluted back year to some reasonably dark skies....

To those of you responding re: receiving your new ST-4000XCM.... I am curious...when did you order your new cameras? This might give me a reasonable idea of how long I'll need to be patient waiting for mine! Thanks.

I finally received mine along with an AO-8, just in time for our winter weather curse. The sky won't clear until March or so...

Ordered one first week of October, and am told that I am the first on their list. Just called today, nothing came in yet, they think by the end of the Month.... SBIG site updated at end of November to announce the limited special has sold out. New list price will be $ 4,500...

I hope my receipt for backorder gets filled...

Hi all...I received my new ST-4Kxcm about a month ago, but due to UNBELIEVABLY FREEZING temperatures, I have only taken it out one night. After some practice focusing, I chose an easy target (M42 - Orion Nbula) for "first light". I took 25 / 20 second exposures using "Track & Accumulate". I will try to attach the image here. It was 12 degrees F. outside, so by the 10th or 12th image there was already a heavy coat of frost on the scope lens...(even with the Dew Removal system)so I'm surprised this much detail actually got through. Focus was not bad for the first try, but there is still some elongation of stars...I'm sure I can correct that when I actually get around to trying the camera using the guiding functions. Overall I am pleased with the way the equipment & software have worked...no technical problems yet that I'm aware of. I have many years of astrophotography experience using flim, digital, webcams, etc....but this is my 1st real CCD imager...so it will take awhile to get used to that...I'm really anxious to get back out & learn some more. Thanks for having a look. Clear Skies to Ya'll ! I do have a website of my images (most are fair at best), if you'd like to check it out.
