I voted for Antonin Rülk Atlas.
I've got an old french edition of this one, and I love it !
Easy to use on the flield (except the red caracters with a red light ! but there is no need to use a red light when watching the moon, isn't it ?) and very precise maps.

Welcome to Cloudy Nights Thierry, and thank you for making your first post in the Lunar forum!
We are all very excited about the new edition of Dr. Rukl's atlas. The new version uses blue ink instead of red so that the trouble with red light is no more.
I hope you will share your lunar observations with us, and I am especially eager to have another lunar observer using the MK66/EQ-5 to trade ideas with!

So I will also be pleased to share observation with you. I know very very few people having a MK66, and nobody(except you know) having the deluxe version.
I would enjoy purchasing this new version of the Rülk atlas, but I didn't see it in France for the moment.

I was ready to download the Virtual Moon Atlas and didn't understand what "Beware that most of the link below open a download mirror selection page." means. And they asked for for me to select a mirror page. I'm very new to this and am sure I must seem a right idiot, but I could sure some assistance.

Hi Erix,
Don't worry about that, just pick a download site that's close to you geographically. Makes life easier. Take NY or Atlanta rather than Asia is all.
It is a monster file, so have something else to do for a while! I start the download and go to bed, personally!

interesting thread - thanks 
im also considering buying my first moon atlas and had deceided on rukl before hearing about the Hadfield SCT atlas (as i use a SCT for observing).
Can anyone tell me how the maps in Rukl are orientated?
I'd also be interested in hearing the eyperiences of other SCT & Rukl users and how they find the using the maps at the eyepiece??

Hello and welcome to the Lunie Bin! (I've always wanted to tell somebody that! )
The maps in Rukl are oriented as seen by the naked eye, but without declination, etc. Kind of like a driving map, North is North...West is West. When viewing, sometimes it helps me to tilt the atlas about 20-30 degrees to match the view with my binos.
Each section has a full globe drawing at the bottom corner of the page with a larger detailed drawing above it. Very easy to use because of that. It helps orientate you faster.
There are also full page drawings of the globes that I use as a quick reference and at the very front of the book, the moon is split north to south, one on each page, with each grid outlined and the drawing number is in the middle. I can look at a feature, find it quickly on that page, then flip to the drawing in mere few seconds.
The downsides?
A little bit big, but I've learned to effectively use it at the eyepiece nevertheless.
Sometimes it's difficult to distinguish what you are viewing from the close up drawings. I have to sometimes flip back to a larger scale picture to orientate myself again. (but again, the smaller globe at the bottom corner of each drawing making it alot easier to use)
