Expanding the sketch library web site new
      #609967 - 09/21/05 05:14 PM

Hi all,

I've been giving a lot of thought lately to expanding the Impressions of the Deep Sky web site. While Jere's catalog of some 800 drawings is impressive, it is by no means complete. One of the goals of the expansion would be to start to fill in some of the missing bits as well as include other objects (double stars comes to mind, as well as possibly planetary stuff).

Likely, the way this would work is observers would "register" at the site and then would have access to an administration tool that would allow them to upload their sketches as well as some basic observational info and notes.

Right now, all the images are loaded at 400x400, which I think is a good size for most representations. I'd probably want to standardize on that size.

So my questions are: are people interested in contributing to this central repository? What else would you like to see as part of it?

It's going to take some time and programming effort to get it all put together, so I wanted to get some input before I went down this road...

thanks,
tim

Count me in. I don't do much sketching. I've done about 40 so far, but my plan is to sketch mainly double stars. I've done about ten so far. I would be happy to upload these.

Nice idea. Would lunar drawings be acceptable too?

The Deep Sky archive has a database of over 3200 deep sky sketches (including Jere's work) so deep sky drawings are pretty much out.

When it comes to comets, planetary sketches and such... it might be an interesting addition.
