I just purchased a Nikon 10x50 Action Extreme. When I try to adjust the interocular distance, one side of the binocular goes black at the point the two images are going to coincide. This occured with a cheaper binocular and I attributed it to the binocular being out of alignment. Maybe my eyes are not straight? Thanks.

John:
It sounds like your eyes are too close to the eyepieces.
Don't the Action Extremes have twist-up eyecups? Try twisting them up to adjust the distance between your eyes and the eyepieces. If you don't wear glasses, the eyecups should probably be twisted all the way out.

Happy holidays Fiske,
that sounds like the correct answer to me.

Thanks for the information. I do wear glasses but I don't like to use them when I'm observing. The extenders are all the way out and I found out that if I move my eyes a little further away the view is better. I guess I'm going to have to find something to extend the eyecups even further.

Why not try them with your glasses on and the eyecups turned in. In fact, I find with both the 10x50 AEs and the 12x50 AEs, for proper eye distance placement, I need the eyecups turned out one click even with my glasses on.
