Shameless plug Scott. I have only looked through one CR150/C6. For the price I think they are great,a piece of refractor heaven for not much $. If you can look past the color you can see alot of detail on Jupiter

As shown in my sig, I purchased my own yard cannon based primarily on the content of this thread and some kind hand holding from people “in the know”. [A special THANK YOU goes out to Scott Beith (SRF) and Larry Cerullo (Miniventures)! ] The bump of this thread made me go back to the beginning to see what I might have overlooked. I did not get past the initial post before rediscovering the comment about the visual back, item seven under accessories. I recently (April) ran across reference to this needed item and purchased one, it works as advertised and is a real plus if you get one! Unfortunately the manufacturer has decided he does not want to make anymore. If you still need one there are some left at Hands on Optics.
On a side note, the original visual back on my unit came with two screws instead of one and the 1.25 adaptor design allowed safe rotation. Someone is trying to make improvements so maybe the next time they will include a two screw compression ring visual back like the Mercury Systems unit!

I have been reading this thread with great interest and thought I would post to keep it alive.
I have the ASGT C6R although it was not my first scope. I also have the CG-4 C4R which is now so cheap it is a shame not to buy one! I paid $239 shipped from High Point Scientific.
I think I saw a picture up above of the 4" mounted on the 6" on the ASGT mount. Looks interesting, I may check and see how much that weights. I have a Celestron 102mm f5 refractor I might put on the CG-4 mount which I have motorized. I also have an Orion Express 80mm which I may want to put on that mount.

That 6" scope is putting your mount very close to its limit due mostly to its length...the lever thing. You add a 4" scope and you'll be WAY past the limit of the mount.

Hi David and Scott, I guess I did not explain myself very well above! I saw a picture of the 4" mounted on the 6" and was curious as to the total weight. Not planning to duplicate that however. I am planning to take the 4" from the C4R setup I just purcased and put it on the ASGT mount. I am going to put the short tube Celestron 102 f5 on the CG-4 mount OR the Orion express 80 on the CG-4 mount. I am going to sell the C6R OTA as it is too heavy for me and besides, I also have the AR-6 on the LXD75 mount and one 6" should be enough for me!

I've been using an Omni 120mm on the CG5 GT and found it completely stable. I can't imagine your idea would result in anything less.

So which is better? The C6-RGT or the Meade AR-6 AT? Both are 6" refractors. The C6 is 150mm and the AR-6 is 152mm. The C6 has a focal length of 1200mm and a focal ratio of F/8. The AR-6 has a focal length of 1219mm and a focal ratio of F/8. They both sell for almost the same price. Both seem to come with the same mount. I wouldn't be surprised if they were both made in the same Chinese factory. I think it's down to which Go To program is better. The Celestron has more objects in its data base. But the Meade has its Level-North technology which some believe makes the alignment process go swifter.
