Jun09 CN Imaging/Sketching Contest Poll!
      #3193509 - 07/01/09 05:31 PM

We are very pleased and proud to present the June 2009 Sketching Semi-Finalists in the Imaging/Sketching Contest.

starquake:

Object: NGC 6910 - The Rocking Horse cluster
RA: 20h 24m Dec.: 40° 48'
Constellation: Cygnus
Date/time: 2009.06.19 00:00 UT
Equipment: 12" f/5 Newtonian
FoV: 12'
Magnification: 250x
Seeing: 7/10
Transparency: 4/5
Sketched on plain 80gr white paper with HB pencil, then inverted on computer.

Inspired by Starobserver's sketch in the Sketching forum, I decided to give this little object a go. The name says it all, it really looks like a little horse jumping. Although it is formed by fairly bright stars, it is recommended to use high magnification. It's in such an easy position, that I wonder why it is so neglected.

Jeff Young:

Solar prominence, June 11 2009, from County Louth, Ireland.

Sketched in white Derwent Graphitint pencil on black Strathmore Artagain paper. Solarscope 70mm h-alpha filter on TV Pronto at f/23. 19mm Panoptics for 85X.

Michael11:

M52 and NGC7635 (the bubble nebula region) in Cassiopea.
Sketched with graphite pencil on white paper.
Location and conditions: Negev Desert in Israel, ~6.3m sky, mediocre seeing.
Instrument: Orion Skyview Pro EQ Newtonian, Sirius Plossl 25mm Eyepiece, with Orion Ultrablock filter. 40x magnification, at 1.25 degrees FOV.
Date and time: 23.05.2009, 04:00
Objects info:
M52: Open cluster, 7.3m
NGC7625: emission nebula ("The Bubble Nebula"), 10m
Notes: Only the brightest part of the "bubble" was visble. However in one FOV with the M52 open cluster it forms quite a nice view.

Aaron:

M17 - Swan Nebula
6/23/2009 2:30am - 2:50am
Golden State Star Party - Adin, CA
12" Lightbridge @ 218x

Please note that voting will conclude on July 8th at Midnight EST.

Many thanks to all who took part in the contest!
