M31 & M110
      #3449681 - 11/15/09 03:37 PM Attachment (78 downloads)

M 31 & M 110 Andromeda. Friday the 13th was finally a good night; almost perfect weather - that was the night I made this sketch. Saturday was the night I took this picture; I know it's taboo to mention ccds on this thread, but I do dabble in it. Just for reference. Ha ha. Hope you won't hold it against me . 5" Mak. 40mm Ep. @ 39x mag. The first is my raw sketch HB pencil on 60lb Strathmore paper. The second is inverted in Photoshop, and the third is a photo I took with my ccd camera and a 50mm Yashica camera lens 20-70 second shots stacked in Maxim Dl.

Nicely done. I like the contrast of the sketch with the photo. Keep em coming Shannon as skies permit!

Shannon,

You have very nicely captured here side by side the instantaneous photon view of the eye verses the photon accumulation of a camera. I love it.

Shannon,
An excellent observation (and CCD image) of the Andromeda Galaxy and companion (M110). You have captured this mighty galaxy very nicely as in comparison to your CCD image. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Carlos

Great sketch, Shannon! I love your presenting the sketch and CCD image alongside. It's interesting to compare the two and is amusing to me that your sketch more clearly shows M110 than does the CCD image.
