500X is pretty high for a 6" telescope, even if the seeing is good enough to support it (which is rare around here).

ok, I've just gotten into this game. I too have a 8" Meade SCT with UHTC (LDX75 SC8). I just purchased one of the camera brackets and I happen to have an old Canon Powershot A60 laying around here (still perfectly functional though).
So the other night I got everyting all cobbled together and managed to shoot a poorly focused Juptier as my first attempt. (I was less interested in turning out good photos the first time out than I was in proving to myself that photos could be created this way at all). I then scrolled the scope on to a dimmer area of the sky. I set the camera to manual, f2.8, ASA400 & a 15 second exposure and shot a dozen shots. All that came out was blackness. There were no features visible that I could use as a registration point in Registax. What am I doing wrong here? I was thinking that at those settings I'd at least be able to find a bright enough point to hack Registax onto.

Hi ggutshal
Did you point the scope to anything in general or just a "Dimmer part of the sky" like you said? with the limitation of the 15s exposure time the object needs to be fairly bright. I have attempted to shoot some galaxies but only get very slight fussy dot on the image. The only way I was able to get the focus right for the Nebulas and the Globs was to first get the best focus on Jupiter that I could, then leave the focus alone, Slew over to the object and take the photo. The view screen was completely black so it was a *Word deleted by the CN gnaughties gnomes* shoot if the object was in the frame or not. To Focus I use the manual mode, I am not sure about your camera but if you push the button to go to Macro focus then bring the bar to the infinity symbol you are there. Now you will have the zoom window for the Macro to use for focusing, this helps a lot. That is how I am doing it Good luck Ian This is my M13 using this method

Canon A75 AR-6 Achro refractor 42 mm 2 inch GSO 39 x 15s stacked in registax and processed drizzle on PSE 2 turned up contrast and brightness used curves addon
A bit of an artisitic flair since stacking did not align all images. Not sure why except maybe the camera spun a bit.

Hello,
Last saturday I try to take some astrophotos of some Messiers with my ED80 and a Canon PowerShot A75.
The sky was foggy and there are some images out of focus, but this is my first try with this setup.
Set up: - SkyWatcher ED80 - Mount: CG5-GT - 2" 32mm eyepiece. - Canon A75 at 400ISO
Processed with: Staked with ImagesPlus, Histograms with PixInsight and final touch with Photoshop. No more.
This is M35 with NGC2158. (37 shots of 15 seconds)

M65, M66 and NGC3628 (28 shots)
M81 and M82 (37 shots)
M84, M86 and Co. (37 shots)
I Wait for your comments and sugestions.
Thanks.

Bumping up the contrast and brightness and applying curves in PSE 2 I got this of your m81m82 image.
I think these little cameras can get some decent Messier images.

This is a picture of m81 and m82 taken with my minimal setu (etx79+canon A85). Sum of 18x10 s pictures (with larger exposure times many pictures are not usable, probably due to AltAz mount) taken in M1 format because otherwise Registax takes an infinite time (and often fails) to process them. Not optimal night. I have the impression that with this format I' m loosing in resolution. Any suggestion?

Hello Expanding Sponge,
Well, you seem to have resolved your focusing issue.
Very nice detail to be seen here.
These little cameras are surprisingly capable.
Did you use the video mode and if so, do you have problems with not over exposing and how do you overcome them ?
I hope you don't mind but I have played a little with your picture. Here's what I came up with.
Very good work. Claude M.

Yes I used video mode. Did not have a problem with overexposure. The avi did look like it would when stacked result in overexposure, however it seemed to go perfectly. Stacekd about 200 frames out of 450 in Registax 3.
I need to keep better records, however I think I used a 2.5 x 2 inch GSO barlow and a 8 mm radian eyepeice with the CANON afocally mounted. I would have used the three times zoom on the CANON.
No I don't mind the modification. However after looking at some other images of Jupiter I now belive red jr is more visible in my image than in your modification. Your modification is smoother, which I like.

Hello,
Once again I'm trying to do some Deep Space astrophotos with the PS A75.
Sombrero Galaxy (M104) - 47 exposures of 15 seconds at ISO 400. - LX200 10". 32mm 2" eyepiece. - Stacked with MaximDL (SD mask) - Histograms with PixInsight. - Contrast and brightness with Photoshop.
Advices are wellcomed. Thanks.

Perhaps some contrast adjustment to bring it out a bit? Here, I did a little and don't think it lost much of the galaxy's detail.
Very nice work, btw!
Also, I noted you used MaximDL and in your last processing for stacking you used ImagesPlus. Which do you prefer, if I may ask?

Thankyou for your 'final touch'!
In this ocasion, I use MaximDL with 'SD Mask' because it reduce the noise in the image more than standard stacking. I reprocess the image of M35 with the SD Mask and the satellite in the image desapear.
It is slower than other stacking procedures, but I think it gives me a better final image.

Hi to all,
Here are a few recent shots taken with my A75 on a 130mm reflector (M13 and M42) and a 10" dobsonian reflector (Jupiter and Moon).
This camera certainly has potential if you're patient enough.
My next try will be to aquire the equivalent of 1hr exposure time on a DSO to see what comes out. I know, this would mean 240 single images but it could be worth a try.
It would be interesting to see the results of the largest number of single frames anyone has used yet so, by all means, show off your work!
