Here is a picture of how they work.
The shiny thing on the left is what attaches to your camera after you remove your camera's ring. It's called the conversion lens adaptor. It should show you in your owners Manuel how to do this. Then you screw the t-ring adaptor into it the CLA. Then you use the set screws to attach the eyepiece to the t-ring, and screw them together. Then mount the eyepiece in the focuser.

Guess what Doug, I had one of those also. I gave it to a friend of mine, now he uses it. I had the Steady Pics version from Orion. It worked pretty good and was really steady or secure once you tightened the thumb screws them selves on the steady pic, but there was a little adjusting to make sure you were centered in the eyepiece. Then just focus and snap away. If you scroll back on this thread there is pictures of various ones being used. It's the simplest and least expensive way to go to get started.

Whoa... Thanks for the *great* pictures and the time it took to illustrate that. My hope is that others will stumble in here too... so they have a better idea than I did! :-) So in an ideal world, I should still be looking for an adaptor. That deal from Lumicon isn't ideal then, because it's not screwed onto the eyepiece, right? It's kind of a less-than-best alternative?

FYI.... Here's more info from the tech support dept. at Lumicon. Again, this solution just feels a bit less exacting to me, because there's no mechanical connection to the eyepiece (threaded, that is). But what do I know? I've never taken an astro photo in my life! :-) --- Dear Mr. Lucas,
You're welcome.
For clarity, there are several different ways to take astro-images. The most common is "prime-focus," where the telescope takes the place of the camera's lens. This requires either an SLR camera and adapter, or a camera designed especially for prime-focus,astrophotography, such as the various Digital Imagers. The Lumicon DigiCam Adapter does not provide for prime-focus photography. It is basically a "steady-hand" to hold the camera in front of the eyepiece, to capture whatever image is in the eyepiece.
In wide-angle mode, you will see a picture of the eyepiece with an image in it. If you then zoom-in on the image, eventually it will fill the screen. Nonetheless, this points to the reason Lumicon redesigned the DigiCam to fit on larger eyepieces: you can zoom-in on virtually any sized image to fill the screen, but the only way to capture a wider field-of-view is to use a wider-angle eyepiece. That is, with a 2" eyepiece instead of a 1.25" eyepiece, you need less "zoom" to fill-the-screen. But wider-angle eyepieces, as-a-rule, are larger in diameter, so Lumicon had to make the eyepiece-clamp larger..
As far as set-up time goes, once the DigiCam is set up for your camera, only very slight changes will be required when you change from one eyepiece to another.
Regards,
Peter Wilson Tech Support Lumicon International www.lumicon.com

Hi Peter. Thanks again. May I just ask a quick question? So are you saying that I won't need to attach anything to the filter ring of my Canon PowerShot G7 camera? Won't there be shadows or something? Won't it be hard to set up everytime for straight-on shooting? Sorry -- I'm just not familiar at all with astrophotgraphy.

As for Scopetronix being out of business,I just got my order from them today, placed order the 2nd of Feb. The order was for a Canon A620 adaptor to Scopetronix Maxview II 2" eyepiece. Not knowing if they were out of business I ordered from the Canon E store the LADC58F adaptor, its the same thing that Scopetronix sent me, just does not say Canon on it and is metal as opposed to Canon's plastic. Now I can't wait to try this set up out. I even found a 2 gig SD card that I forgot I bought, so this will help out. Manny

So Scopetronix is still delivering? May I ask... Did they enclose any paperwork? ... e.g., a bill of sale saying that a return might be a possibility? . . . or did it look like a one-way purchase?

The packing slip had a phone number for RMA's, which I just called to see if a machine would pick up, must be after hours, as it just rang and rang. With all the rumors flying around I just took a chance and placed an order and if it came great, if not that was okay too. It came, I'm happy. Manny

I just had a very pleasant thing happen. In anticipation of my Scopetronox order never coming to fruition I ordered a camera adaptor from Canon's E store just so I could be working on the rest of the adaptor/ring adaptor hook up. Well a day after I get this adaptor Scopetronix's package arrives, so now I have 2 of the same adaptors. I called CS at Canon to get my RMA and they asked what was wrong with the part, I said it was not up to my expectations. They told me to keep the part and they gave me a full refund on the part. The part,LADC58F was $32.93 shipped. Its all plastic where Scopetronox is metal and much nicer quality wise. Manny

Doug, Call 'em tell them that you did not meet your expectations,,never know,,,,,, I asked them flat out why do I get to keep the part AND get a refund, the person told me because thats what they wanted to do, maybe to keep a Canon owner happy. I was at the local Wolf camera this AM and was asking about the teleconverters for this adaptor, I was told it was not really that good, too soft a focus for regular picture taking. I so now I really have a spare part. Have you checked out my bracket for holding the shutter release button down? Manny

I just tried to hold the camera up to the scope for a terrestrial photo and -- yikes -- not pretty. I have to zoom in too far to avoid seeing the pipe (like taking pictures through a soda straw). Does it get any better at night? At this rate, I might try to return my adaptor anyway.

I'm sure hoping it does, have not seent helight of night in weeks.
You do need the Canon adaptor to thread the reducer into, then onto the eye piece.
Using the Scopetronix setup it holds everything quite well and have messed around taking picutres of the phone pole across the street.
The only question I have is how to get a good clear focus.
I did get a Toshiba portable dvd player to use as an exteranl monitor as trying to focus using the minute screen on the camera is well not good for that purpose and with me need ing glasses for anything closer than arms length forget it.
even with the monitor, I'm having issues with focus and that in day light and using auto focus on the camera.
See pic below, in it I'm going for the section below the top of the pole, its close but I think it could be better,,,, then if I'm having trouble in day light how do you focus on a spec of light in a manual mode not using the auto focus.

So which one was metal? How would you rate the metal one vs the plastic one? Im looking for a similar adapted for my canon and I would think the plastic one would not be very sturdy...

Hi Jeff-g. The Canon was plastic. The Scopetronix version is metal. You're probably right -- the plastic version doesn't appear to be as strong. :-(
Alas, the pictures just weren't that great when I held the camera up to the eyepiece and shot, either. :-(
