Hi Everyone:
I just placed an ad (for sale) in the Shop and Swap section for a Digi-T adapter for a Canon A60, A, 70, A75, A85. Thanks.

I use the Canon A-80 with the Digi-T adapter on my LX90 8". I got some pretty good views with it, most at 400ISO and 15seconds exposure. Here is M42; a 15 second exposure at only 50ISO. Edited using GIMP 2.2. This particular pic was actually taken before I got the Digi-T, and the A80 was on a separate tripod aimed afocally through a 26mm EP. Trust me, it was difficult to set up.

I have a question. I currently have a Powershot A75 which I have used and am pleased with the results of objects like the moon, m42, ect... I was wondering how would the A75 stand up to the Meade DSI for DSOs? Would the Chip in the A75 be more sensitve or equal to the one in the DSI? Any help or info would be great. I want to start imaging more DSOs and I am wondering if I should look at the DSI or keep trying with the Powershot.
Thanks Ken

Hi,
I was wondering how did you remove the noise in your picture. I've experimented with piggy back photo's but on the 400 iso I always get a lot of noise on the picture. I also use Gimp.
I've attached a photo I took yesterday of "The Keystone" next to Vega. It has a lot of noise in it...

Noise can be removed by averaging multiple exposures. The freeware program called Registax can do this. After that, one has to stretch the image, basically knocking down the black background level to something near black while bring out the stars. It takes practice to get a decent image from raw data, and the more light pollution you have, the worse it gets. The raw data from some of my widefield shots is enough to make one cry - I never knew the nightsky was such a "nice" shade of grey?!

For noise, I usually tone it down by using 50ISO instead of 400ISO, that's the simplest solution. Also I dont zoom too much to keep the pixelization down. With GIMP, i usually increase contrast and brightness a bit. Then I tweak the histogram (usually narrow the color values), and add an unsharp mask. Sometimes I dilate or erode as necessary. Now this may be a dumb question, but does Registax work allright with JPEG's???

Indeed, it was another clear night in Maryland!
I think you can see a bit of M110 above M31 in that photo!

Hi All,
Here's a pic I took last week of M27 Dumbell Nebula with my A70 attached to my 8" LX90 via Orion's Steady-Pix and 20mm lens.
