Thanks Matthew. I was pleased to be able to capture the colors within M27. I have been shooting different DSO targets for some months now. Some work...some don't. Would really like to have a longer bulb setting in the 45 sec. range. I think exposures of 45 seconds combined with stacking programs would bring many, many DSO's within range. Oh well, I guess that's why they make DSLR's huh? Still, the A70 is a remarkable starter camera for astrophotography.

Clear skies,

David

Hi all.

My name is Florin, i'm from Romania. I found this forum accidentaly, when i searched for some pictures made with Canon powershot series and i was so pleased to find you guys. I have the A75 model. I was amazed by your images, so last night, the sky was clear, and i tried to image Mars. I atached a picture made affocaly with a Canon A75 using a home-made 250mm F5 Dobsonian and a 9,8 mm SuperPlossl. I staked aproximatively 100 frames. The image is not so good as i wanted, but it's the first try. It looks like the image suffer from cromatical aberation.
I hope to improve on the quality soon using my A75.

~I do not speak english very well, so forgive me if i made some mistakes.~

Welcome to Cloudy Nights, Florin! That's an excellent image; epecially for first light with an A-75! I have an A-80; but have never had any luck with Mars.

Hi, I've got an A510

Has anyone tried to remove the lens of the camera
to try prime focus astrophotography ?

I suppose it's a kind of "dream" but it would be nice if
we could find a way to increase the maximum exposure
time from the current limit of 15 seconds....

Hello,

I'm really amateur in astrophotography, but I like astronomy a long time.
I send my first astrophoto of Moon.
I used Canon A85 and binoculars.

Hallo! I' m new here, writing from Italy. I have a A85 camera and taken some standing camera picture. The enclosed picture is a sum of 10 15s shots at 400 ISO, no zoom, taken in Malargue, Argentina in february. The single shots have been added (and derotated!)in Registax3 and (quite heavily, possibly too much!) processed in Gimp. I have subtracted two dark frames.

Ciao for now

Capture Perfect

Maybe someone can help me? I have tried several times to connect my A85 to my laptop (under windows XPpro) without any success. The camera is recognized, but it seems that no software is able to communicate with it. I have upgraded the driver with the last canon release with no success. I must add that before installing the canon software on the laptop I installed it on a MAC, where it works perfectly...
Any hint? Did anyone have the same problem?

p.s. of course I power tha camera in the 'view' mode...

My next camera will be the S2; could you go into more detail using the afocal adapter & maxview 40? I have NEVER taken any astro photos (as you probably can tell) Thanks!

Great picture of Mars, and for what its worth your english seems fine to me. I am curious as to how you took the images before stacking. Is this from multiple single shots or from a video clip. Also how did you track at high power. I have a 250 mm Dobsonian as well and find mars moves pretty fast.
