I've listed my Nexstar 8i, SV80 and SV 80/9D above, but I have another scope to add. I've recently picked up used the TAK FC100. This is a wonderful scope, with wonderful optics. This dew shield does not retract, so it is pretty long. I still prefer the feathertouch focuser to any other that I've tried, but for the money this scope was an excellent buy!

Since my refractor scope was damaged by the movers.
Im looking to buy a Orion® SkyQuest™ XT10 Dobsonian.
I may get the 12" but not sure I want to spend the extra money.

Hi, I am new here,
1)Tak FS102 Likes, Outstanding optics, excellent fit and finish, rock solid on my AS-GT. Dislikes, little short on DSO.
2)C9.25 AS-GT
Likes, very good optic, good aperture.
Dislikes, needs collimation and cool down, little heavy for the mount.

I have Meade LXD75 AR 5" with GoTo. I like almost everything about this telescope. Unlike my previous Orbitor 6" (Newtonian) - I guess some of you heard about these killer-machines, which can be used for anything but astronomy - my Meade has good optics, chromatism is bearable, mount is steady and... GoTo - what else can I say? (trust me - GoTo is the only option if u have telescope on equatorial mount during winter time, because kieeping ur fingers on ur hands is the first priority)
I dun like only one thing about this scope - it is practically impossible to use it unless you have friends who're the same crazy about the sky as u r. It's bulky. There is no way one could transport it in bare hands. But the feedback for having this heavy instrument is a heavy performance.

I have a ten inch Hardin dsh-10 and the optics are pretty nice. I've outfitted it with rubber castor wheels, with lockdowns. Now I can (very carefully) roll it out into the driveway, lock it down and view. It doesn't need to be precision because it doesn't track (of course).

Ok here's what I presently have
ETX-125, got it as a grab and go. Really great optics, but the forks could have more rigidity.
Meade LX90 8", great medium sized all around I think.
Takahashi 225 9" SCT, love the views I get from this scope. I had to part with a C11 to get this one, but the quality and design make it a joy to use. And the collor correction is more like some of the larger refractors I have owned over the years.
C-90 astro, have never been able to part with this little guy, not even after I got the ETX. It is just built so darn solid. I do think they used to "build em better" back when.

I have meade 14" lx200 gps uhtc.
I don't care how heavy it is WOW!
This is my second telescope. My first one was my rewards for selling greeting cards for JSCA out of Boys Life magazine when I was 8 Years old. That was 39 years ago. I saw Saturn and then GI Joe got popular.
Well I'm back! I did have some college Astronomy 1A and lab a few years back so it will be fun to reacquaint myself

I have Optica 4.5" f/4.5 reflector on SkyWatcher EQ-6 SkyScan mount. Yeah I know, huge mount for a such scope but perhaps someday I'll have enough money to get an 8" SCT OTA.
Pros: The scope is easy to collimate and gives nice wide field views.
Cons: Focuser "slides" so I have to refocus all the time. Eypieces that came with the scope aren't suitable for deep-sky viewing.

I am sort of new to this forum, but old, and have been into astronomy since I ground my own mirror for a 8" newtonian way back in 1960 while I was in college. I currently own a Vixen NA130SS on a CG5 mount, and C-11 and C-9.25 on a CGE mount.

Recently purchased an Orion 100mm SVP Refractor,(f6). My first "real" scope! I plan on entering the CN refractor review contest as soon as I've had some more observing nights under my belt.

Gordon, welcome to CloudyNights!
Your questions are best answered in a separate thread, but hopefully a moderator will come along soon enough and cut this section into a new thread.
First, NEVER use a solar filter that attaches to the eyepiece! The only safe solar filters are full aperture filters like those shown here .
Second, read/watch tutatorials on using an EQ mount. Here's one. http://www.astronomyboy.com/eq/
Third, in general the ebay scopes have a bad reputation for lesser quality optics and shaky under-sized mounts. While this makes them more difficult to use, they are usually still able to show you a few things.
Read as much as you can. About your scope, about astronomy and about finding celestial objects. A good book like 'Turn Left at Orion' or 'NightWatch' will be a tremendous aid. Ask lot's of questions, especially here in the beginners forum. You'll find hundreds of fellow amateur astronomers just waiting to help.
Lastly, have patience!

hi again, and thanks for the reply.
i have built the scope up and have not/will not look at the sun with the filter.....
my main concern is collimation of the scope as im not 100% sure on how to do it.....
once i have this confirmed i will tart to look for things in the glorious sky at night.... i woul like to see mars as i can noticably see it glowing orange just now and this seems an easy target to find....
thanks again....
gordon... (p.s. link to a collimation guide would be very helpfull)
