Eric, what are the specs on this shot?
(How many frames, what eyepiece, how much zoom (if any) on your digicam... that kind of thing.)
That's pretty respectable from a digicam, by the way.

That was with a 20mm eyepiece and a 3x barlow for a magnification of 150x, and optical zoomed with the digital camera. I was half asleep when I did the stacking, but I think it's something like 160 images. I'll probably do another run through the raw and see if I can get it any better.
I tried getting Jupiter last week but it turned out pretty poor.. this time I also used my variable polarizing filter which really helped bring a lot of the detail out.

Yeah, Jupiter isn't placed well for me yet - at least when I'm awake to give it a try! Maybe March will be better!

Nice, I'm just waiting on my holder for my digicam,
you used your zoom on the cam, you could of used a smaller EP. at a guess its nomraly 23mm lens on a cam (mine is). I'm not sure if it would make any difference. but you will get a bigger pic.
Cant wait for my things to come, woohoo.

Were you magnified so much that no moons were close enough? Or did they just happen to be out of FOV at this time? Very nice shot too!

Re: Moons
Normally, when you're trying to properly expose the planet, the moons are too dim to pick up. If you try to pick up the moons, you overexpose the planet. It's the rare shot that gets both... (but you *can* shoot 2 frames, one at each exposure, then merge them...)

hehe, I was wondering where the moons were, but then remebered the xp time etc.
I love how you can see the moons very well in a very small scope.
I like the picture, its got a 'creamie' feel to it. So looking forward to whne I get my stuff sorted,

Well, since we are talking Jupiter, I thought I'd jump in. This shot was taken on 13 Feb 2005 with a Vixen 80SS (400mm, f/5) short tube mounted on Vixen GP-DX mount. Used Nikon 4500 digital camera, scopetronix 14mm EP, UO 2.8x Klee barlow, for f/28. Used Baader UV-IR filter, ISO 200, 1/8 sec, 4x zoom, 1200x1600 pixels. Registax of 16 frames.
