Using my pocket PC for sketching
      #440351 - 05/14/05 09:34 PM

I am intending to get Deepsky so I can start logging my observations. Also going to use my pocket PC to sketch my drawings, as it's so useful to use, and better then paper. There are some sketching programs, and one of the best I found was pencil box delux. Which can be downloaded from pocketgear.

There used to be a very good logbook for pocket pc and there is a demo you can download from pocketgear.com with limited sketching ablitity with it, but this program seems to be no longer supported, so cannot regisiter it. With Deepsky the good thing is it now includes pocket deepsky, so can make notes of your observations, and combined with a good sketch program for your pocket pc, much better than using a paper log book.

There does not seem to be any astronomical logbooks for a pocket pc anymore, which is a shame, as a good pocket logbook with pocket pc would allow quick note taking and sketching, more conventant then using a note book.

The great thing about using pencilbox is it's like using colour pencils in real life, so makes sketching easier to do than using many of the other sketching programs.

There is also a free version of pencil box also for those interested in trying to use your pocket pc to make sketches.

I've thought about trying this on my Palm-based PDA. Unfortunately I haven't found a drawing program that is quite up to the task. Now if Photoshop only ran on the PDA I would be all set.

I have not heard of pencil Box.
I use PhatPad for sketching on my Handheld PC(but no astro sketching). I haven't loaded the latest update, but the original version did not have shading capablity (transparent) which may be a big problem for "real" sketching vs. the cartooning I do.

This is the link to pencil box. I would recommend the Pencilbox delux, as you can change the colour of your pencils and has one or 2 better options. This is a very simple and natural drawing program that behaves like your using coloured pencils.

There maybe better drawing programs available then this, but most are quit complex to get to use properly.
