Chance to view some truly dark skies in the middle of nowhere at over 7000 ft!
August 5th-7th Starwatch site
Anybody from CN planning on going? I'm going to head down on the 4th and set up, along with a couple other guys from our local astronomy club.

Thats an awesome looking site. How many years has this event being going and what has the sky track record been? MT is on my list of places to get to. This just gives me another reason!!!!

Patrick,
Not sure on the weather track record, I did send an email to find out more info tho. I believe this is their 12th year, and about the 3rd year at this site. Here's a link to a few other pictures of the site taken last year: more photos Scroll down a little ways to get to the pics.

Thanks Ted, It'd be a long haul for me for a weekend deal but I'm sure I could find a trout stream or two for the rest of the week ehy!

Patrick,
Here's a quote from one of the 'veterans': "I have been going to Starwatch for 11 years and only once did we get rained/clouded out. We at least will have one night of viewing. We have had some Smokey nights because of forest fires but we have been very fortunate so far."
so...odds are in our favor for a clear, dark sky. Let me know if you're serious about coming up, I'll make sure you at least get some fishing in!

Ted, I was looking at the pics. Really nice unobstructed views! Beautiful meadow. Now there's one thing you dont see in TX in the middle of July is Long sleeve shirts, sweat shirts , and light jackets!! Although those kind of temps would be a welcome feeling for sure. Unfortuanately this year is all planned out. My brother will be up there to attend a Rendezvous for the Mountain men. 1st 3 weeks of July. Not sure where that is though. Have fun!
