The new and improved website for the Lehigh Valley Amateur Astronomical Society is http://www.lvaas.net/

Their new on-line forum is really well done!

I have not been able to attend any meetings yet, but have attended their star parties. What a great group of helpful, courteous people.

Even if you don't make it up there, jump in the LVAAS forum as a guest!

My sister attended Lehigh University, and I suspected that the skies up there were pretty nice (especially compared to the utter nightmare that is central Maryland's "night" sky.) - you folks also have lots of rolling hills, which are nice, too.

Unfortunately, Lehigh University and the LVAAS are nailed by the light pollution from Bethlehem and Allentown. It has a Bortle scale rating of 6 or 7: "Milkyway at best very faint at zenith. M31 difficult and indestinct. Sky is grey up to 35 degrees. Limiting magntidue 5.0 to 5.5"

My skies here in Quakertown are about 5.6 - 6 depending on the night. I want to move to Arizona!

When I was a single guy, my apartment was only a few blocks off Lehigh's campus. I was involved with the Taekwondo club that used to meet in Upper Grace Hall. The memories!

I suppose "good skies" is a relative term - where I live (Bortle 8 or 9, I guess), seeing the Milky Way is pure fiction! So, anything is an improvement!
